Big change in routine causing stress

My bosses have two dogs and two cats.

One of the cats (Buddy) who is a bit more timid has been pulling out his hair and now has a bald spot.

They are sure it is stress related as they have had a big routine change with the opening of their second store. In the past month they (my bosses) have been getting up earlier (up to 2-3 hours) and both are gone all day until early evening. This may modify a bit but their old routine is history.

I suggested to give Buddy more attention when they are home. Maybe a treat before they leave?

Any other thoughts will be helpful and I will pass on!

Play classical music while they're away and get the canine version of Feliway. I think it's called DAP or something like that. They may also try leaving some clothes with their scent on it for the dog to lay on and get him a stuffed animal "companion".

Is Buddy completely scared of new people and unwilling to get used to them? (with time, even all of mine will come out to investigate) Or is there a trusted local friend or family member that Buddy knows already?

I suggest either someone he knows or someone good with animals (sitter) to come during the middle of the day to walk the dogs and give attention to the cats and just do people things around the home so it seems more normal to all of the pets. Of course they'd have to pay the person - if they could afford that.

I forgot about Feliway. I will suggest email her and suggest that. I think one of them got home earlier tonite plus their son was home from school for the weekend which may have helped.

They are kind of like me in the area they live no one close that could stop by.
