sphynx cat? - Page 2

I am scared of getting heated beds because of fires.
We do get in the low 20's here alot in the winter.
In the summer we are in the 100's though.
Since you are in a colder area what do you keep your heat at?
We keep our house at 68 or above.
I also put clothes on my sphynx when it is cold.
They also sleep with my furry cats.
Sphynx seek out heat.
They sleep on my laptop.
There was one Mau at our show yesterday.
They are nice looking cats.

i keep mu house at 72* during the winter we have oil and a pellet stove plus if we have a power outage like the New England ice storm our house was built in with a built in generator so even if the power goes out the house stays warm. and about the heated bed i will ask my dad since he is a firefighter and see what he says. and no i didnt order the cat yet its 6:18am here and i am getting ready for school. and they can always sleep with the dog ( dog is VERY friendly) when i am not home plus i will leave beds and blankets for the cat. and yes i no Mau are good looking cats there unique like sphynx. and my mom will probley dress the cat up during winter lol. oh and she is also doing reaserch we found out that one of her clients own 6 Sphynx and she is getting info from him. Is there anything else i am forgetting? if i am please reply. thanks Sean

Just a few words from another Sphynx cat owner

1. Sphynxes eat a LOT of food, they need to to keep their warmer body temperature

2. Always feed a Sphynx premium cat food, and indeed you can feed them kitten food all their life as they have the higher energy requirements that kitten food has.

3. Sphynxes, like all cats, are pure carnivores. They cannot derive nutrition from plant and vegetables and will end up with diarrhea , painful bloating and bad gas if you feed cheap food that uses fillers (usually corn based) or even "gourmet" food. Cats have no use for vegetables, and only eat grass as a digestive when they need some fibre for a purge of their bowels.

4. Sphynxes take a lot of looking after. More than a normal house cat. Be prepared to continue these tasks for a long time.

5. Be prepared for people to be outright rude and disgusted in your choice of pet. Learn to have a thick skin when the whispered, or not so whispered, "ewwwwwwwwwwww"s occur.

6. Placing clothes on your Sphynx can change their personality, cause them to fall over or become clumsy . Clothes are mostly for the owner than the Sphynx.

7. Male Sphynxes on average are 25% bigger than female Sphynxes.

8. There is lots of information out there about Sphynxes but make sure you get it from an experienced owner or breeder. What counts for one breed does not count for another

During the winter we keep the thermostat set at about 72, summer months at 75. This winter was especially hard on the cats as we were hit with three blizzards. Two of them were within a 5 day period, leaving my area covered in over 5 feet of snow. We couldn't keep the house warm enough for the cats! I live in a temperate climate and winters are usually mild, so this is by no means the norm for us.

I am glad we do not get as cold as you and do not get blizzards.
They do get them about 1.5 hours east of here.
We even had snow last Dec.
Ferris maybe you know the breeders that show Maus out here.
I see Maus at every show we go to.

Here are pictures of my sphynxs.
I do not have any pics of the new sphynx I am getting but he is white.
Cleo is the black and white sphynx and Wrinkles is the Seal Tortie Point and white sphynx.

i like cleo i might get that color it looks neat and also the white one if u had to choose what kind would you chose there both awesome!
I did not pick the white kitten because he is white.
I wanted a show quality sphynx so the color did not matter.
Are there any cat shows in your area?
I would go to a show so you can see the sphynx in person.
I like Cleos face better then Wrinkles.

no there arnt reallt shows near me if i cant figure out another color i will get the color of cleo cause i like that color. this sounds dunb but if there like a black kind of this cat?
I love the solid black sphynx.
You need to see what the breeder has first.
Then pick kitten off the website.
I was going to get a solid blue or solid black sphynx before I got Cleo.
The breeder played games with me so Nial told me his friend had sphynx kittens and I picked Cleo off of his website.
I was stuck between Cleo and a Tortie.

lol i just had a wacky idea do u know any good breeders around that will not play games? lol. thanks
post #46 of 57
Good Breeders do not play games.
When I first looked at sphynx I did not know anything about them and was only writing breeders that were within 3 hours of here.
My posts are still on this site about the breeder that played games.

Cleo is from the Breeder in S. Carolina we were talking about, and said you should talk to - he is EXCELLENT. He is also where Jacky is getting her next one.
Wrinkles is also from a breeder, but another one.
You need to win the lottery to find one in the shelter. Go to the breeder Nial and Jacky (mews2much) are telling you to go....

thanks!!!!!!!!

Cleos breeder is in North Carolina and Wrinkles breeder is in San Diego.
Sphynx are not cheap cats.
If you see them at the pound be careful.
You do not know the history of the cat and it could have HCM.
Carolina a lady found me on facebook last night and said Cleo looks like her male sphynx.
He turned out to be her brother.

We don't normally get blizzards, either. This year was just a freak winter, the last one even remotely like it was over 100 years ago (not that I experienced it, but so the weather historians say!)

You'll have to PM the names of some of the cats you've seen, I know of a few breeders in your area but have only met one in person. An exhibitor with one of my Turkish Vans is also showing her Mau, and I think she is in your area. You two might have crossed paths and not even known it!
I will go through the catalogs and pm you the name of the breeders some time this week.
I do not think there were any Turkish Vans at last weekends show.
One of my friends is a Turkish Angora breeder.
There were two Maus at the last TICA show.
Bother were Silver Spotted Tabbys
