I hope you read this through the end because that's where it gets good...
I had to run some errands today and found myself at the pet store. I didn't really need anything, but, being that this particular store tends to have excellent competitive pricing (and the fact that I had two $200.00 gift cards left over from my birthday
), I decided to run in to see what was up. And, trust me, I'm glad I decided to go in because they had an awesome sale going on. I was in heaven
!
The dogs got about 20 cans of their wet food along with a big bag of their dry food. They also got a package of their tartar control biscuits, a couple of boxes of treats, a bag of rawhide bones (American-made), and a pair of Nylabone chews. They got 2 new dog beds also. Oh, and they got new collars and tags as well! The hamsters got food (buy one bag, get one free), new hidey-houses, and chew sticks. And, the birds got a couple of new toys as well as some mineral blocks and spray millet.
And, the cats? Well, the cats made out like bandits (of course
)! I bought them a bunch of cans of ZiwiPeak food and a bag of the freeze-dried food as well (I'll post about this in another forum), some of their regular canned cat food, 2 bags of their dry food (TOTW), a number of different treats, a couple (couple = 5 in this case
) toys, and a HUGE box of litter. They also got a new cat fountain and a handful of the inserts/filters, another set of wet food dishes, a pair of cat beds, and new collars. See? I told you they were spoiled
!
Amazing was the fact that I still had money left over (almost $75.00) on one of the cards when I left. But, that's not even the best part! Apparently, since I use my own reusable bags, each time you use one instead of a plastic bag in the store, you get entered into a drawing. Well, let's just say that I put a lot of tickets into the contest bin! And, no sooner did I leave the store that I received a call from the manager saying that I had won! And, what did I win? A $250.00 gift card and a gift basket! The gift basket (as if the gift certificate wasn't enough!) had in it a fleece throw with pawprints on it, a stationary kit with kitties on it, a variety of dog-themed greeting cards, an inspirational daily reader having to do with animals and (get this!) a gas card worth $50.00, a gift card for a local grocery store worth $100.00, and two $100.00 gift cards for the pet store! I never win anything and, seriously, I feel like I hit a major, major jackpot! I couldn't even believe it!
I thanked the store manager profusely and then bought a bunch of stuff (using one of the $100.00 gift cards) for their shelter drive (dog food, cat food, a bunch of collars and leads, and a load of cat and dog toys). Then, on my way home, I stopped at the shelter I got Cassidy and Delaney from and donated the other $100.00 gift card to them. They were so appreciative and I felt so good about it. That still left me with the $250.00 gift certificate and a full heart. And, that came after I bought a bunch of food for the local food bank this morning! I can't believe I was blessed enough to win such a lovely prize and be able to feel good about myself for helping others.
This is just proof of how there is still goodness in the world. I quit my job and was struggling with that decision majorly. I wanted to help others because I may someday need that help (and, I am blessed enough to be able to help right now). I'm just beyond words at how lucky I am. Today was a good day and I just wanted to share that all with you -- there is always reason for hope and faith and in doing good for others you will be given good in return.
Wow...just wow...
