Jim Bunning, hero or villian?

I'm not sure what to make of this guy. Sometimes I think he's the only one of the bunch who is making any sense. I understand that people stand to suffer from the delay, but I'm not sure that the point he's trying to push isn't valid. Do you ever wonder what's going to happen when we can no longer pull billions of dollars out of thin air?

It seems like every thing now is based on getting elected in November, whether it's a good decision or not. Of course, we could suffer the mother of all earthquakes, and then all this crap would be the least of our worries. Anyway, what's the verdict on Senator Bunning?

The dude has a point I think, how ARE we going to pay for this? That said, I don't like to see people lose their COBRA or unemployment benefits.

Barack's administration just doesn't get it. Hiring a few million more government workers just isn't the way to stimulate the economy. We need to MAKE stuff, manufacturing jobs.

I've really been of two minds on him doing what he's been doing.

1. My husband is one of the 400,000 (is it really that low?) who is still unemployed after the 46 weeks of state unemployment (it's been close to a full year) and on federal extension. Get the darn thing passed - it's the people who suffer while you do the political posturing!

2. I do believe in a fiscally conservative government. They did pass the PAYGO thing just a couple months ago, so they should be sticking to it instead of just paying the taxpayers lip service to quell the outcry.

So I'm happy that they did finally get it passed. (Has this been going on less than a week??? It seems like months!) And I'm really happy that they actually did pay for it. But the thing is...this is the temporary action for "only" $10 billion. The next one to extend benefits through the end of the year is going to cost ~$100 billion. Are they going to find a way to pay for that before passing it? I seriously doubt it. So really, he made a point on a, comparatively, small fry bill.

Good for him for standing up for how it should be done, and trying to hold Congress and the President accountable for not only what they said, but the legislature that was already passed to pay as you go. However, boy did (Dingy) Harry Reid grab ahold of that opportunity to stick it to GOP as if it were the whole party instead of one man who was fillibustering, and make it out to be a much bigger deal than it was.

The way it's being played in Kentucky is, because Bunning is quitting after this term, he has taken the place as the GOP "expendable thug", who is actually speaking for the entire party, on the down low, that is.

And, for the time being, people here are buying it.
