We recently adopted a kitten and she has been having a little trouble adjusting and I we have been communicating with the vet to rule out any medical reason she would be having trouble. Our vet keeps recommending we feed her science diet, gave us samples of science diet, and when we called to ask questions about her potty problems they said "Well, if your feeding her science diet then the food shouldn't be the problem." I told the vet when we were there that I wasn't really keen on feeding her science diet and she said that it was one of the only food that met the nutritional requirements my girl would need, but based on my research it seems to be far from that.

Basically, how do I tell the vet that I don't want to feed her science diet? I really really like our vet for the most part but I don't get why she keeps hounding me about that food. Piper is already a very picky eater anyways and didn't like the sample that the vet gave us. She has been eating Nutro (after doing research on that too I plan on changing it to a better food, probably the wellness core, later after she is better adjusted to our new home) and she likes that some, but she still won't eat the full amount it says to eat on the bag for her weight. Idk, I would just like the vet to help me without keeping suggesting that switching to science diet would solve our issues.

Thanks in advance!!!

ETA: No offense to anyone who loves feeding their kitties science diet, but I just don't feel that it is right for my little girl or that it will solve all of her problems like the vet thinks it will.

Well, the vet is telling you to feed Science Diet because he makes a commission on it... Very simple...
If you like the vet for the most part, you can tell him nicely that you respect him, you like him as a vet, but you do not like Science Diet as a food for your cat, and that is your choice to make and he should respect it. If he asks you further, tell him you don't like the ingredients, and for him to please respect your choice.
My Bugsy gained a lot of weight because of Steroids treatment coupled with free feeding... So his vet wanted to put him on a Diabetic food, high protein, high fat, low carbs - Purina DM. It made sense, but the ingredients were disgusting. I went ahead and found a food that had comparable analysis (actually even lower carbs by 3.5%), but much better ingredients, and put him on...
You are not under any obligation to do what the vet wants as far as food goes... It is your cat... Your choice...

Now, Curious... What is the problem you are having with your cat? Maybe we can help?

Thanks yall!!!

Hissy, I just sent you a PM, thanks so much for the advice!

Carolina, thanks for the tip! Here is the link to her potty problem. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=212904
The more I have read about it, it seems likely that the issues are due more to anxiety but I have still been talking with the vet to try to rule out anything medical for sure.
