Info about how wrong it is to declaw? - Page 2

I found it! I found the site that I mentioned in my last post!

http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm

When I saw those pictures, I said - No Way!

If that's not enough for her to change her mind, then she is truly beyond hope!

Good website! This is what I said to her:

Listen, I know I'm being pushy. You probably think I should mind my own business, but when it comes to animals, I can't be silent. They have no voice for themselves. I have to be their voice. You know you can adopt already declawed cats, and save a new cat the excrutiating pain? I have one more website to show you. http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm

If you do go through with declawing him, don't ask me if you have any questions. You can find answers elsewhere. I strongly believe that declawing is done purely out of the selfishness of the owners. There is no benefit to the cat whatsoever. Ok, I'm done. I hope you make the right decision.

I feel you're right, it is done out of selfishness, like many things are done to our pets out of selfishness. Declawing is about the worst. But there are so many horrible things we do and then just tell ourselves it's acceptable for whatever reason, however flimsy. It's just harder to face it and do the right thing.

Personally...If shes not willing to listen or be open to other options and you didnt really care for her to begin with if she goes thru with declawing the cat then F her. People like her are (this is the polite version) buttholes! I just recently had someone debate about declawing a cat because they are renting a furnished home that has leather furniture and they didnt know how to prevent their furniture clawing cat from damaging it. THANK HEAVENS someone brought it up while I was around I grabbed her showed her the softpaws website and she is ordering two kits in pink for her cat and Im going to put them on for her to show her how to use them and now kitty wont be declawed!!!! People who do that to cats are vile evil disgusting humans and should be declawed themselves!!!!

Well, she didn't answer my last message, so I'm assuming that must mean she's going through with the declaw. She's a disgusting, selfish person.

Tell her to go to

You want to know a way? Tell her to sit in on a manual declaw. Tell her to listen to the sound of their nails being cut and ripped off. Tell her to see how tightly the bandages are after declaw. The sound alone will turn her off. It's gut wrenching. I know it... I've assisted in them. It's horrible.

IF the cats are STRCITLY INDOORS, and preferably have a medical reason for it, LASER DECLAW is soooo much better than manual. It's hard on the wallet, but a better alternative if declawing is the LAST RESORT or for a medical reason.

Two of my kitties had to be declawed for medical reasons; one kitty's paws were so sensitive that she cried when she walked, and the other kitty is mentally challenged and was hanging herself on everything (even when she's actually let me trim her nails, she would still get hung up on blinds, curtains, you name it), and though it was quite pricey, I opted for laser declaw... even so, I was SOOOO nervous about having it done. But, kitties are healthy and no longer hurting, so... it had to be done....

Again, tell her to sit in on a surgery... that would be convincing enough....

Hope everything works out!

Okie, you are SO right!!

I can't remember if I mentioned it in this thread, but when I was in 7th grade we had a "career" day where we got to shadow a professional in the area where we would like to work. I shadowed a local vet, and the ONLY thing I can really remember from that day was the declawing procedure I witnessed. It was a kitten, and I'm not trying to get too graphic (though I know most people here know what's involved), but watching the vet clip off the bone and remove the claw, and hearing the sound that came out of that kitten haunts me to this day. I was in 7th grade circa 1985. So 25 years later and it is still a horrific memory for me. I only had to witness the procedure. The cats who have to LIVE WITH IT won't even live for 25 years.

Declawing breaks my heart.

I sent her a video, it was the first thing I sent her. I told her if she was willing to do that to her cat she should willing to watch it.

Declawing makes me sick to my stomach.
Unless there is a medical reason and no other alternative then no cat should ever have to go through with this barbaric procedure.

Being uneducated on how awful declawing is well thats one thing...but knowing full well what it involves and still proceding...thats a cruel and selfish owner and someone who should not be allowed to own an animal

I've never been punctured by my cats except when they needed their nails clipped, and even if I was well guess what, I would gladly take being punctured by my cats when they sat on my lap rather than put them through the pain and anguish of being declawed

OH GOSH! The kitty is being declawed today, and it's almost causing me physical pain to think about it!! My shoulders are all tense and I'm so mad that this stupid girl is being so selfish! I'm trying not to cry but I feel so bad for the poor kitty that I couldn't convince his idiot owner not to hurt him!

Since it's going to happen anyway, of healing for the poor sweet kitty.

I hope he bites her for doing that to him, though.
