Here are some pictures of some cupcakes I made for a Formula 1 Party...
I think they're just the best thing for a kids birthday party!!

If any one would like instructions on how to make some for their kiddies birthday I'd be more than happy to post (or email) the instructions ...

By the way the Butterflies are EDIBLE!!! :kitty5:

BUTTERMILK CUPCAKES

If you are making these cupcakes for a large crowd, do not double the recipe, make multiple batches.

You will need:

twenty-four 2 1/2-inch paper muffin cup liners
4 cups cake flour (not self-rising)
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
4 large eggs
2 cups well-shaken buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350°F. and line twenty-four 1/2-cup muffin cups with paper liners.

Into a bowl sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a large bowl with an electric mixer beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy and beat in vanilla. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating well after each addition, and with mixer on low speed beat in buttermilk until just combined. Add flour mixture in 3 batches, beating until just combined after each addition.

Divide batter among muffin cups (batter will fill cups) and bake in upper and lower thirds of oven, switching position of muffin trays halfway through baking, about 22 minutes, or until golden and a tester comes out clean. Cool cupcakes on racks 5 minutes and remove cupcakes from cups. Cupcakes keep in an airtight container at room temperature 2 days.

METHOD:

First you need to select some butterfly patterns.
Pick bold ones. They are easier to trace.
Once you have decided on your patterns, you need to print them out.
Once you've printed them, stick them on a window with the colored side facing the glass.
You should be able to see the butterflies through the paper.
With a thin black felt tip, trace out the shape of the wings, and all it's details.
Do this with all the patterns you will be using.
The more accurate you are, the better.
You will only need to do this once.
You can keep the patterns forever once they're done.

TO MAKE THE WINGS:
You need wafer paper.
And food coloring felt pens.
If you can't find these pens you can also use non-toxic felt tips.
White, not colored as colored paper is too stiff.
Now wafer paper has two sides, one is smoother than the other.
This is the side you want to be drawing on.
Lay your wafer paper over the butterfly patterns and begin to trace.
You can use any sort of color combination.
I always use the same patterns but the butterflies always come out different.

You can if you like, color in both sides of the paper, but this is quite tedious. I know. I've tried.

Once you're done with the wings, let them dry over night if possible.
When they are dry cut them out (carefully carefully carefully) leaving BOTH wings connected.
That, by the way was the most difficult part.
The rest is EASY!

Now you need to make and ice your cupcakes.
The cupcake recipe i use is above this post somewhere...
The icing recipe i use i'll post below...
But you can really use your own recipes in both cases...
It's up to you.

Once your done with the cupcakes, ice them.
I find it looks nicer to ice the cup cakes with small flowers or dots rather than just spreading the icing over the top, but that's just my personal preference.

Once they're iced, get your wings out and make a fold between the wings.
Gently place them on top of the cup cake and press down in the middle with a thin stick to liftthe wings off the cup cake slightly.
Add two flower stamens as the antennae.

AND THAT'S IT!!

Check here for some nice butterflies.

If you have difficulty tracing the butterflies out, you can use mine.
I can't get my scanner working at the moment, but as soon as i do i'll put them up here...

Well judging by looks of those cool butterflies, I bet you wouldn't have trouble making the umbrellas into a nice light snack.
Your fiancee must be a portly, (but very happy guy) if you put even half that effort into cooking and baking.
