I can't believe this - my disabled daughter who is only 29 (social age is 13yrs) has to have her gall bladder removed. There's no apparent cause, but I had her go on the Yazmin birth control pills to clear up her acne; I didn't realize that Yazmin has been linked(and the FDA has warned Bayer about it) to gall bladder failure/removal....
I was the one who got her the DPT baby shots (now outlawed) that damaged her brain in the first place.
this poor girl - I've got to be one of the dumbest moms ever - I try to do the right thing, and then ruin her life

.....the bad news - I still have to tell her about the test results being so bad. Her doctor told me that he will tell her at her appointment on Tuesday. Poor kid, she really doesn't want surgery

All BC pills can cause gallbladder issues, among a lot of other side effects. The doctor probably should have made this clear to you and sat down and discussed it. BUT, for her age, it's not uncommon to have gallbladder problems start up anyways. Sometimes it's genetic, but otherwise it's just a side effect of eating what most of us do.

Don't feel guilty. And make sure to tell her that surgery to get her gallbladder out is an easy surgery. She'll be home the same day - so it won't be so scary since she won't be there too long.

I hope she adjusts quickly to having her gallbladder out. Some people do, some take a few months, and others (like 5%) don't. To help, try to get her to eat as little to no fat for a few weeks after her surgery. Docs may say it's ok to eat normal food, but fat will set off diarrhea.

Hun, you aren't a bad mum at all,gall bladder problems are very common and its a good thing to get it sorted early. Please don't blame yourself, the pills have only been linked to gall bladder problems, it is not 100% that this is what is to blame. xx

Seriously! You need to stop blaming yourself for her health issues.

None of this! And I repeat....NONE.... of this is your fault, not even her brain damage!

The DPT vaccine is still being given. Everything medical comes with a risk, everything, not just vaccines. Every pill that you take has a risk of some side effect, even an obscure one that a very small percentage might experience. Hundreds of thousands of children get DPT vaccine every single year with only a slight few developing any type of complication from it. It's called "Benefit vs. Risk."

You are not responsible for her brain damage, and given the fact that these injections are given at such an early age before mental developing has finished, there is absolutely no way to know that the DPT shot was even responsible for the stunting of her mental growth.

So please! Stop blaming yourself. You have nothing to feel guilty about.

I absolutely agree with everything that has been said hun!
You in no way can be blamed! I had my gallbladder out when I was 16 years old and trust me, it is a very easy, minimally invasive and your daughter will recover in no time at all. It is a very common surgery hun. Sending a ton of vibes.

You did what you thought was the right thing for your daughter. And you did it out of love. You were being a good mom.

I'm sure she doesn't want surgery, nobody ever does. But if it's needed, well, it's needed. And you'll be right there with her the whole time.

(((hugs)))

I never took bc pills and I had to have my gallbladder removed in 2004. It does not have to be tied to the fact she took them. It is a simple surgery. I have 4 teeny tiny incisions. I went in the morning and was back home that afternoon. I was back to work in 10 days!

I agree with all the above posters - this is not your fault! It is far more likely to be a genetic predisposition than anything else:

Young women are between two and six times more likely to develop gallstones than men in the same age group. In patients over 50, the condition affects men and women with equal frequency. Native Americans develop gallstonesmore often than any other segment of the population; Mexican-Americans havethe second-highest incidence of this disease.

Pregnancy or the use of birth control pills can slow down gallbladder activity and increase the risk of gallstones. So can diabetes, pancreatitis, and celiac disease. Other factors influencing gallstone formation are:

* Infection
* Obesity
* Intestinal disorders
* Coronary artery disease or other recent illness
* Multiple pregnancies
* A high-fat, low-fiber diet
* Smoking
* Heavy drinking
* Rapid weight loss.
Please do not blame yourself!

My cousin blew out her gallbladder by losing weight, and her dad blew out his by gaining weight...they are very finicky organs. Maybe it was going on the Pill and maybe it was sunspots. At least gallbladders are pretty easy to live without.

You're a good mom! Otherwise you wouldn't care...or feel guilty. It's not your fault. You were trying to do what was best for your daughter. A doctor or health professional may have made the same choices for her daughter, given the information that was available at the time. for your daugther's speedy recovery.
