questions about british short hair

Thread Starter
hi everyone ,
we have sacred birmans and are in a breeders associations here in chile.
my husband fell in love with the breed british short hair, specially silver tabby.
he would really love to have one or two of them. he said, if you have four cats you can have five or six.
we live in a big house so we have enough space for our furry friends.
anyway we do not want to breed with the british, we would like to have them as pets only.
problem is here in chile are almost no british or at least no serious breeders.
are there any of you breeders that would ship outside of the USA?
is it even responsible to ship that far away?
does anyone know the prices and costs for such a project?
also can you tell me specific details of the british short hairs character, I mean not just the things that are commonly written in books. I mean everyday things if you know what I mean...
thank a lot for your help
bye bye
greeting from chile

You might have a tough time in a few ways. First silver tabby Brits are not really popular with the breeders (yes they are striking and you find a lot more silver tabbies in AMERICAN shorthairs rather then the Brits).

Second, not a lot of breeders will ship overseas for several reasons, one of them being the cost.

Third, buying only a pet may be cost prohibitive. Most times IF the breeder sells overseas they will do so as part of an exchange in a breeding program - not just for a pet.

I'm sorry if this sounds so negative, but just wanted you to know what you are up against. If you can contact some breeders and talk to them a lot, maybe you can find the one you want. But its not gonna be easy.

I did a quick look - there is a breeder in Arkansas on the list that ships internationally and does have silver as one of the colors they work with. Maybe that will be one to start with. Also one in Connecticut has silvers.

Silver tabbies are very popular in Europe, but that's propably way too far. Then again, they do import to USA so maybe to Chile too. If the cats are going to be 'just' pets, it's going to be harder to find a breeder willing to ship that far (unless you go and pick it up yourself).
