for your cats to lose a bit of weight when switched from a grainy food to a grain free?

(i'm not sure if i should put this here or in nutrition!)

i have noticed that both of our little guys have lost a little weight since we have switched them - gradually - from natural balance ultra dry to taste of the wild dry. they seem to be getting slimmer and more muscular.

they're on straight taste right now, have been for a week. it took about a month to switch over, and they seem to love the new food.

energy levels are normal, LOL they run around like crazy things.

Yes it is normal, for most instances! Carbs, which is what grains are, turn to sugar which turns to fat.

I have a cat, already too thin, who does very poorly on a (canned) grain free diet, so he gets a brand of food with rice, and barley, in it, and one who tends to chub who does much better on a (canned) grain free diet.

Three cats, three diets, in this house.

But I have to ask are you feeding the same amount? The fat in the taste I believe is = to NB ... The protein is 8% higher is Taste thus less carbs

Also HOW much wt loss in what time frame?

i haven't noticed a loss of physical body weight as much as i have noticed that their physique is trimmer. their waist tucks are a little more noticeable, and they don't feel quite as squishy when i pick them up. maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of a pound, less for tim who was not pudgy already, and over a period of about 6 weeks.

they get 1/4 to 1/3 a can of wet twice a day and have access to the dry throughout the day. they seem to be eating about the same amount of dry that they were of the NB.
