sneezy cat

Hi. I was just wondering if cats can catch colds? My cat is 2 and he has never done this before, but he keeps sneezing. It sounds a bit like he has something stuck up his nose or that he has dipped his nose in pepper or something!! He has also become very very clingy. He keeps climbing up me for me to pick him up, and if im sat down he has to be sat right next to my face. He has always been an affectionate cat but not to this extent so im wondering if he maybe poorly. I dont want to take him to the vet straight away as other than the sneezing he is in perfect health. Can any one help me or give me a bit of advice.
Cheers

Of course cats can catch viruses. Viruses have evolved to infect pretty much everything, nothing is spared.

That said, most cat viruses stick with them for life and will flare back up in times of stress. Non-virus causes of sneezing can be environmental factors. In the winter it can be from overly dry inside air, and because our homes' air quality in general is poorer in winter. The humidity issue can be helped with a humidifier and is a good idea for pets and humans alike in the winter. Using various scented products or letting your home get a bit dusty can also be very irritating to cats (and humans).

But since yours has a behavioral change, you should really call your vet. He could have a fever that you're not noticing.
