Today I went to the pet store to check on something I needed. While there, I decided to take a look at the cats. Oh my, there was one cat who started talking to me the minute he saw me coming. It reminded me so much of how Speedboat always answered us everytime we said anything to him. I miss my talking lap cat. There was a big yellow short haired tabby laying there in one of the cages. He just stared at me the whole time, never even standing up. He looked to be a very old cat and he must have been tired. If I had been going to take one, it would have had to be him because he looked like he needed a home the most. All the other cats were younger. Doesn't it break your heart how people can have these cats and then they end up in the pet store. I guess maybe someone had fostered them or something. All of the cats there were at least 2 years old probably. Is there anyone else who loves to go to the pet store just to look.

I used to do that, but it just breaks my heart to see the ones that are probably unadoptable.
There would have been no way I could have left the yellow tabby guy. My dear little Fred was a yellow tabby and I still miss him every day. I have no willpower when it comes to cats.

I can not handle it! I fall in love sooooo fast! And there is always that one like you mentioned that calls you by name! I want to bring them all home with me! As it is I have 6.
Anyway I pray soooo hard that Fluffy is not pregnant! I mean we can handle it all and have many no kill shelters, stores, spca and peta right here in my city. My problem is you have to keep them at least 7-8 weeks and that is tooooo long considering I fall in love so fast. Oh why oh why do I have such a huge mushy heart!!!!!

Is Fluffy your own cat?

When I used to volunteer at the shelter, sometimes there would be cats there who were 12 years old or older! How someone could have a cat that long and then give it up to the shelter is beyond me.

I really want to go the adoption section of the pet stores, but it is so hard and I start to tear up. If I won the lottery, I would buy a place that had many out buildings. I would convert them to kitty houses.

It would be state of the art. I'd hire people to clean and play with them. They would have a forever home there. Those that could be adopted would be. No cages. Just room to run and play. There would be outside runs too.

I fall in love with cats so easily. Especially the older ones who you wonder if they will ever find a home. I pray for them every night.

Wow! I could have written this post myself! I too have that dream of owning enough land where I could have all the cats in the world and no one would be caged it would be open spaces with lots of toys and boxes to play in and hide in, oh heck it would be a mansion for kitties!
I am like you, I fall in love with kitties in seconds, thats why I am worried about Fluffy, she looks like she might be pregnant but im not sure. Boy it would be hard to have to keep them for the 7-8 weeks and by that time you fall in love with every single one. Oh Lord help me! lol

I do not look at the cats at the petstore anymore.
They make me sad and are hard to resist.
I fell in love with a jet black cat named Samatha and wanted her so bad.
It was right after my Bombay/Burmese mix Patches died.
They have adoptions at out cat shows.
At one of the shows 9 cats out of 12 were adoped.

Most, if not all spaces at the petsmart adoption centers in our area go to no kill shelters, so when I visit the kitties, I know they're not facing an imminant death sentence and will hopefully find a furever home.

Going to look at the adoptable kitties at Petsmart is how I finally convinced the husband that it was time to adopt a cat
While we didn't see the Squeakster there, a little kitten just melted his heart.

This last weekend, he actually asked to visit the adoption center again when we were buying food and litter. Maybe he'll meet another special kitty that will touch his heart and we'll get another

We have a great no kill shelter here and from time to time they will bring animals to the mall and they do really well. The best thing is all the cats have been fixed and all shots and wormed and flead ect. and they sell them for like $100.00 which is great when you consider you KNOW what you are getting.

I regularly torture myself by going to petfinder.com or the Denver Dumb Friends League (where I adopted Holland) website. I want to take all the kitties home with me, and I always end up in tears over someone's story. I don't know why I do it to myself when I know that I can't afford to take in another kitty right now...

Today we had to drive back over to the town where the pet store is. There was some kind of dog thing going on there. They had a cage with puppies they were trying to sell just inside the store. I went in only to visit the cats. I wanted to see if the big yellow tom and the talker cat were both still there. Both cats were still there along with a younger yellow tabby and a grey one. All four cats would not move. They were asleep and wouldn't even open their eyes when I talked to them. The only one who moved was the talker, but he never said anything, just rolled over on his back and stared at me. The big old yellow boy just laid there and never moved. I pray someone will come to that store and want him. He is old and needs a home. My question is, these cats acted like they were dopey or drugged. Do pet stores do that to cats to control them. Honestly all four cats were just there not moving.
