I keep seeing this. My dads cat chews the long tails of furry mouse toys and eats them. My sisters cats go further and strip them bare. I guess I am too paranoid but I never let my cat play with them too long as I know he will have most of it digested in a few mins. Instead I tie a long solid string to it and use it as a play session with him before bed a few times a week.

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Swallowing long strings like that can really wreak havoc on the inside of a cat. You do the right thing by supervising your cats play. You should suggest to your dad and sister that they at least cut off the tails of the toys, and only leave "safe" toys out when they are not able to watch the cats.

I'm not sure about the fur off of those. Sure cats will eat fur off of real mice, misc rodents, and even rabbits (what is usually used in cat toys), but that's along with everything else to help move it along and they're not dyed like the tiny fur covered mice are.
Personally, if any of my cats were into destroying their toys to that extent and eating parts of it I just wouldn't give them those types of toys.
Find some alternatives? Real or fake fur sewn into little "pillows". I know you can pick up some little toys like that at petco or petsmart with something crinkling inside it for .99 cents. Handmade, knitted, mice shaped toys with no tails or ears to chew off may work, too.
There are also the larger real fur mice that have the fur glued onto them a bit better - you still have to remove parts, though.

When mine manage to tear a toy to where they can eat any part of it I figure it's time to trash it. No point taking chances.

My cat nearly died from eating a very small piece of foam (from a kid's toy - that he chewed up himself). Two very expensive surgeries and a lot of worry later, and he is fine. Personally, I would not take the chance...
