My parents gave me a Pampered Chef silicone cupcake pan. It makes 12 cupcakes in 4 different designs. It's a nice pan, but I've never used any silicone baking pans.

Has anybody here used them? Do you like them? Do you have any tips or any advice to give me?

Thanks.

I have several silicon baking pans and 12 muffin cups. I find them OK to use, but they tend to brown on the bottom quicker than metal ones in my experience.
It is easier getting stuff out of them as you can just turn them inside out.

I bought various silicone baking pans several years ago and have since donated them to Goodwill. The baking times varied quite a bit from metal ones. They are floppy so you need to place some of them on a metal baking sheet. The so called easiness of getting the baked material out to me wasn't enough of a feature to overcome their downsides.

My friend had us over for dinner last Friday night. She baked her biscuits on a silicone mat placed inside her baking sheet. They were good, just a little browner on the bottom that I like them. I haven't used any but she said that sheet she has does very good for cookies.

I have 4? I think. I like em. I have a bunt pan, a muffin pan or 2, and a cake pan, they worked fine on the cake, turned out perfect for me but I don't really do muffins so I have yet to try that one, and my last bunt cake was a jewish apple cake from scratch, so there was no way I was getting it into a floppy pan.

A little scary at first, I was terrified it would melt, but no real problems, I think I lightly greased it before using it as well just to be on the safe side (everything I cook sticks, even in a freaking non stick pan, so I have to be prepared :p)

I wouldn't use them, but it is purely my opinion.

I prefer to use only stainless or pyrex cookware (teflon coatings are ok) because with aluminum and silicone, I am just not comfortable with the possibility of the materials leaching into the food. Also, I am more comfortable with the way that stainless and pyrex hold and distribute heat into the things they are cooking.

Tried 'em, they are too bendy for me. And you have to use another pan to put under the silicon one anyways so that's an extra dish to wash. I'm lazy, lol

I've been wondering about those pans too. I nearly bought a mini bundt pan (looks like a cupcake pan but has bundt shape instead). I passed.

I've seen cooking shows where they swear by those silpat sheets. I haven't tried them though. I tend to just use PAM or some parchment paper.

Thanks for your opinions....I appreciate them.

I have to use it once at least because it was a gift. I'm thinking I should do a trial run, just to see what happens, so I'll try it this weekend. According to Pampered Chef, you should not put a sheet or anything under the pan. That bothers me because silicone is very flexible and I don't need a mess in the oven. And several people mentioned that the bottoms get browner than theylike. But we'll see.

I wouldn't have bought it myself. Several people had asked me if I had had any experience with the silicone stuff and, other than spatulas (which I love), I never used them.

Thanks so much for answering my post.

I also have several of those silicon mats, and I really like them for baking bread. I find they're very convenient for kneading the dough on too. I use those the most, and I like my silicon spatulas.
As for the cookware, I wouldn't buy it again as I don't think it's worth it and the metal does a better job. I like my Bundt one more as a mold for cold desserts than to cook in.
I never thought about silicon leaching into the food!

The silicon baking pans are meh. But the silpat baking sheets are AWESOME! Literally nothing sticks to them. Very expensive but I love mine. BTW, if you use the silpat, don't mistake it for a cutting board. I cut something on it once and the knife cut it like butter and I had to get a new one.

Funny I should find this topic now.

Earlier today my mom and I were shopping and she was buying some silicone baking items. She wanted to know what I thought of them, but I have no experience with them.I only heard they were good products. She bought the stuff anyway.I will be sure to let her know what some of you said about it.
