Hi all, sorry for the disgusting subject line. Both my cats have had diarrhea for the past 4 or 5 days. The only thing I can think of is their cat food. I've been feeding them Natural Balance for a long time now. Two weeks ago, I had ran out of cat food and completely forgot to buy more until I got off work late, by that time all pet stores were closed. So I went to the grocery store and just bought a small bag of "PetPride". I fed it to them for 2 weeks, and then switched back to Natural Balance this past Thursday. I first noticed the diarrhea either Thursday or Friday. Does this sound like it would be the problem? Any answers would be appreciated. Thank you.

Absolutely! No doubt, that is the problem... Cats need to have their food transitioned very slowly otherwise disaster strikes in the shape of diarrhea! And that can last for a long time - about 2 weeks or so...
I am going through something similar right now because of a small qty of dry food I gave to my cat not knowing she had been eating only wet food for a while...
Anyways, I advise you to put them on a Probiotic - either Bene-bac sold at petco or Petsmart in small tubes, or Fortiflora (you can get it from your vet, or from Amazon.com). From Amazon will be much cheaper, but of course from the vet you can get it immediately... Both Work wonders... Be patient, and watch them closely... If other problems arise, then you might need to go to the vet (like in my case, where her digestive system got so bad she stopped eating, and the diarrhea lasted almost 20 days).
Good luck!

I concur with Carolina. Also, Pet Pride sounds like Kroger's store brand. Not very good. I know you were in a bind. If you get caught again, try Brandon Farms, which Kroger's sells. Its the same as By Nature sold in Petsmart. I have been buying their wet canned at 20 cents per can LESS than the same food at PS.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice.

I thought because of the timing it would be the cat food. I hate giving my cats that junk food... but didn't stop and think of how it it would affect them after a couple of weeks. I'm gonna give it 2 more days, hopefully everything will come out fine (pun intended).

Something which i tried which cleared up my cats diahrea is a homeopathic remedy called natrum muriaticum, which in animals works wonders in terms of clearing up the causes of diahrea, and restoring the cats biochemical balance. use the 6x potency in that medication and put approximately three to four drops in the bowl of water, only leave the water down and when they drink it give them 20-30 minuts before putting their food down, ive been doing this every day since they get better because it also acts as an immunal strengthener, and so far the cats diahrea hasnt come back and also i stopped the metronizadole and its amazing, the metro was helping but only so little, and soon as i started him on the homeopathic stuff it was amazing!
btw no side effects from the homeopathic stuff, give them the stuff twice a day it will work wonders!
xxxxx lots of kissess for ur kitties. x
