I'm taking Maggie to the vet tomorrow about this, but anyone know what's going on with her?

She's got clear stuff coming out of her eyes. She sneezes a lot. I've heard her all throughout the day. She'll sit and it'll be like she's about to throw up or something, but it sounds like she's trying to breath or something.

We think it may be that upper repository infection or whatever it's called, but don't cats only get that once or something? She had it when we first adopted her back in August.

Also, she hissed at me for the first time ever tonight. Would all this make her do that? I was rubbing her and she hissed. So I just walked away and am leaving her alone for the night.

I'm hoping the vet will know what's going on with her.

Just as humans can get a cold every so often (usually once per year), cats can get an Upper Respiratory Infection when the virus going around has mutated enough that their immunity is no longer effective. It's the same sort of virus as our cold virus (rhinovirus), usually.

The vet may give you antibiotics, but that just affects any secondary bacterial infections.

She might have hissed because she didn't recognize your smell, if she can't smell anything. Or she just might not be feeling very good.

I have a cat with herpes and her eye runs sometimes. Anyway, I think you are doing the right thing to go ahead to the vet. I am sure you will get some help there. Hope it all turns out okay for you and your cat.

First, you're such a good dad for getting Maggie into the doctor to make sure she gets any treatment needed. I bet it's just a cold, but she's probably somewhat miserable and couldn't smell you to know who you were, so there comes the hiss. I've been hissed at by my cats when they're not feeling great. But, good job to make sure it's something minor, rather than wait til it gets worse. The vet can probably show you exactly what to look for if it happens again - but we all learn by experience. When my little girl first had a 'weepy' eye, I was dragging her to the vet. Now I know better what to look for, how long to give it to clear up, and when to panic,

I think it's a fairly good sign that it's clear stuff coming from her eyes - like humans, when it's green or yellow, really time to call the doctor for an infection.

Please let us know what the vet says, and again, thanks for being a good dad.

They said she'd probably have the upper res. infection forever since this is the 2nd time she's had it.

They also found ear mites, so went ahead and got that treated. Now she's just laying on the floor where she walked out of the carrier and just lying there lol.

She's eating fine. It also looks like I'll be paying for her now. My mom just can't afford it, so I said I'd start paying for her and she pay for the dog. Makes it easier on her and we don't have to get rid of her. She's here to stay.

EDIT: I just read the note the vet wrote. He mentioned rhinopnueomaitis, some viral infection. Herpes, VSH, and a bunch of other things. He said we could take her to a specialty vet school and see if any human compounds would work, but they're generally very expensive.

they can culture the goo coming out of her
.. it is not terrible $$ and at my vet is shipped to the local lab.. this will tell u if any antibiotics or anti virals would help... NORMALLY human stuff = way cheaper

Definitely have the discharged tested with a culture and sensitivity test. This will tell you what she's got (viral, bacterial, etc) and which medication will treat it most effectively. Also, you might want to have her tested for Feline Herpes using IDEXX's Real PCR URD test. It actually tests for 6 different upper respiratory diseases.

She took her medicine yay. The first dose she did fine, but then we used a eye dropper for the second medicine and she spit it out. Vet said to try baby food chicken flavor so we bought that and she ate it all up.
