Odd biting and crying behavior

Alright - I need some help. I am not sure what (if anything) is wrong with my cat. I have a 4-year-old calico named Freya. Beautiful, sweet cat, but she has some feral in her. She has always been the kind of cat that doesn't want to be picked up and held and only want to be in your lap if SHE wants, and then only for a short time. Anywho - she is not the type of cat to cry for attention a lot or want to be petted excessively. She was spade when she was 6 months old.

A few months ago, my husband and I took Freya to the vet for impacted anal glands. We had also noticed some dandruff at the base of her tail. The vet said she was about 4 pounds overweight and that was the reason for the dandruff - she couldn't reach around and clean the area.

There is the history - now to her problem. Lately, she has been crying for attention ALL THE TIME. Even when you pet her, she continues to cry and trill to varying degrees. Any time you run your hand across the base of her back, she immediately begins attacking and biting herself on the front legs or stomach. To me, the trilling and the biting seems like something that is mating related, but she shouldn't get those feelings anymore right?

Any ideas or explanations would be great - thanks!

Do you think she could have fleas? I've seen this in cats with fleas, mainly those who can't reach a spot to scratch it.....very frustrating! Get a flea comb and run it through her fur to see if you catch any fleas.

I would also say fleas - including possibly a flea allergy, which could cause extra irritation and a desire to be scratched.

It could be fleas, it could also be something else. Best to have her checked out again. However, I have to say that I didn't like much what your vet had to say about the dandruff issue.

Dandruff is usually a food related problem. It could be she is not getting enough fat in her diet and might need some fish oil supplements as her skin might be too dry.

What are you currently feeding her?
