my maine coon is naked :(

So on thursday my mom's cat samantha went to the groomers to be clipped and to get a bath. She has the type of fur that mats very easy. Plus she hates to be brushed. So the mats came one by one.. So the groomer stripped her down and gave her a lion cut. She does look silly. I just wish that the groomer had left fur on her tail. She has a puff of fur on the tail.

Poor Sammy...i think she feels because she has been hiding since thursday. Shes now in the office in a cat cube ... but she won't come out to eat her food. so i have to bring the food to her. Maybe shes ing because she doesnt like her new look.

Here is a picture of sammy. Its not my best picture of her because she wanted to hide.

I have a few that don't like to be brushed, too, but I use a comb and they don't seem to mind that.Maybe try getting her used to a comb instead?

She's a modest lady, that's all!

Awww poor kitty. But when the fur starts coming back in, get yourself a fine and medium toothed comb and use that. Brushes don't do anything to take care of mats - they just go over the surface of the coat.

All long hair cats need to be groomed by comb only-not brushes!

She's probably cold. Poor kitty, could she be brought to the groomer more regularly? I hate that "poof" left on the tail too. I just don't like the look of a "lion cut". I understand the need for some cats getting shaved, but my goodness let them have some dignity.

Works well on DSH's with plush coats, too.

OMG kitty nudity!!! My virgin eyes!! lol j/k

Awww, poor kitty. She's probably cold and humiliated. I had a foster persian once and he had a lion cut (looked HILARIOUS because his face was REALLY persian, literally flat as a board. When he would eat, he got food on his forehead.) I ended up buying him a little red sweater because he just looked pathetic. He didn't mind the sweater, he wore it mostly everyday when I was home but never at night.

I feel sorry for your cat. I hope when her fur starts growing you will keep her groomed.

The OP stated that it was her mother's cat, not her cat.

HAHAHA cute! I give my Bugsy a lion cut too since he hates to be brushed and when his hair grows he ends up vomiting a few times a day getting very sick. He always looks so abused afterwards you just have to laugh at how cute he is.

Poor baby, she will get used to it after awhile. It takes Bugsy a few days before he forgives me and then he becomes more affectionate, I think he can feel more of the petting with shorter fur.

Persi mats very easily and is full of mats now because I was unable to give him the proper brushing and combing he deserved. I am considering taking him to a groomer and having something done. But I am afraid to do this. Dallas County has Persi listed as a "vicious animal" (long story explained earlier on TCS). Frankly I am afraid he will bite the groomer. If this is reported he will be put down. Does anybody know what groomers do to keep from being bitten or what they do when bitten? Persi is a very loving socialble cat, but under extreme stress he will react in the normal way: bite. I need to take him in to a groomer badly but am afraid of what might happen. (Persi is a Himalayan and has extra long and full fur.)

Is this something you can discuss with your vet? Some of them offer grooming services, although they may want to do a lion cut (I don't know if you want to do that). I don't blame you for being extra-cautious now that Persi has a "record"!

Most groomers just consider it the risk of the job. Most will require proof of vaccines before grooming so they know the cat is UTD on rabies. They shouldn't report it for any reason.

I know Mitzi quit grooming cats after she had a bite get infected. She now only does dogs, they are easier to muzzle when necessary, but she never reports bites to anyone beyond the owner, there would be no reason to.

Any groomer who reports bites to any authority needs to find a new line of work. If you mess with an animal(and some just don't like being groomed) you risk getting bitten. I know the last time we had Abby shaved down(Old English sheepdog) the groomer went easy on some spots because she growled when she got to some spots. I will say she had been grooming Abby for years and years and just didn't feel like upsetting her. Now Abby would never ever bite anyone(she growled viciously when we helped her up if she was having trouble on the tile) I think she just liked to hear her own voice, but the groomer wasn't going to risk it, nor did she want to muzzle her just in case since the areas where she was sensitive weren't really important spots to groom. Not to mention she knew Abby had severe arthritis so she figured those spots were painful and she didn't want to hurt her. If Abby had 'decided' to bite her I see no reason why she would report it to anyone beyond the owner.

Talk to your vet, some do grooming or will know a place that does good work. You can ask the place what they do in case of bites(or ask your vet) and you can go from there.

Like I said as long as they know the cat's vaccine record and know they are UTD on rabies there would be no reason for them to report it. Vets don't report either, like I said there is no point. The animal wasn't being malicious and it wasn't an unprovoked attack and if they are UTD on rabies there is no reason for anyone to know.

Like I said talk to your vet they should be able to help you out with finding someone to groom her.

I have a boy here that absolutely REFUSES to let me comb those nasty matts -- I mean he gets REALLY nasty. He was treated no different than the rest of the litter and they were all fine with combing, bathing and blow drying. The groomer looks at me like I'm crazy when I tell her how he reacts to me. Persi could be just fine outside of his 'element.'

So sorry. Please excuse me. I read the post wrong. I would love to see a picture of the cat with all the fur grown out. It must be a beautiful cat.

I think her dignity got a bit hurt, but that's all!
Maybe she is cold too, as it was said. Keep her warm and see if she stops hiding!
And, let's say it, even with the lion cut, she looks gorgeous.

Thank you all for your comments. Sammy is better..she comes out to eat her own food. But now she is sneezing. So im wondering if this is from her lion cut.

Here is another picture of sam.

I have Persians and they mat up too. Plus they hate being groomed. But when I clip them down they don't seem fazed by it. They might get a little annoyed but that's about it. I'm surprised maine coons also have matting issues, I heard they didn't really.

Give your baby time, it's not loss of dignity, but the strange new feeling of not having fur on her. She's feeling air currently more now, and the feelings of walking or any movements are also different. This has put her guard up because she doesn't really understand why things are suddenly feeling different. But she will soon get used to it.

Samy is doing better and better with her lion cut. but now the weird thing is ... shes sleeping in my bed during the night... under the covers. she never did that when she had the fur. So i wonder why she changed her mind about sleeping in my room.

Maine coons are used to their long fur to keep them warm. Now that she has less fur, it makes sense that she is sleeping with you under the covers. She is finding ways to keep warm.
