I was just talking to Amy Shojai. I emailed her about fireworks and animals who are terrified of them. She passed on an important tip.

The room where your pet is hiding should be closed off from any escape. The radio or television should be on white noise (static) not a working channel. It is the constant tone of the static that keeps the animals calmer, versus the fluctuating sounds of a working channel.

Great tips! Luckily Zoey does not get scared of loud noises. Some kids were setting off M-80's the other night and she didnt even flinch LOL.

Does having the air conditioner on count as white noise? Ivo's hiding closet is in my bedroom, and I have the AC on (it's 91 here today).

My dog is terrified of fireworks! He escaped on July 1st (Canada Day) and was picked up by the SPCA. We had to go and get him yesterday and it cost us $177.00 to get him out! He was outside in his enclosure and he squeezed through the fence! Next time we have fireworks he will be kept indoors.

I don't know Christy, I would think any steady constant noise would help?

I have to laugh at Mr.Orangeness here- he doesn't hide but what he does is growl every time he hears one go off. People are shooting them off now even though it's noon!

They're starting to do the tests for our city's fireworks, and although Ivo doesn't seem too upset, she does seem a little antsy. However, it looks like we might not have fireworks-a big ugly storm is starting to move in, and it's gotten really windy

my kitty seems to be fine but I'm really worried about tonite when it will sound like my house is in the middle of a battlefield. Kitty is inside/outside and lately will run and hide when it's time to come in so he's been pretty much outside. Tonite I will have to bribe him.. Already there's a boom about once or twice a minute, I guess the crazies are warming up.. :girlie:
