Those of you who live in areas when there's a lot of snow are probably familiar with this...you come inside and little pieces of sand and small bits of gravel come off your shoes or boots.

Sweetie has discovered these little pieces of gravel, and he'll pick out one of them and bat it all around the kitchen floor. It even provides him with hours of fun and entertainment!
Sometimes these pieces of gravel even get batted onto the livingroom carpet. Of course I have to sweep the floor, and Sweetie gets anxious and cries when I do this. Then, if he can't find anymore pieces of gravel, he'll go into the livingroom and look on the carpet until he finds one. Then he'll put it in his mouth and spit it out on the kitchen floor so he can start playing again.

I have tried to distract him with cat toys, especially small ones that will roll around easily on the floor, but after a couple of minutes he doesn't want anything to do with these.

Does anyone else's cat have weird "toys"

Holland will bat around anything that she can. She loves bottle caps, empty lip balm tubes, and she will even bat around the larger pieces of kitty litter that she might find on the floor.

This morning I got my vitamin out and put it on the counter while I got a glass of water. I turned around and caught her just before she swiped it onto the ground. They do keep us on our toes.

We had a cat (now at Rainbow Bridge) named Ali (short for Alexis). Two of her favorite toys were a kitchen dish towel and an oven mitt. If any of these were left on the counter overnight you would be certain they'd end up on the floor after her playtime with them. Maybe she smelled food on the oven mitt - will never know --- but my late Ali just loved these things.

Much does that with socks and hand towels.

Lucy likes anything small that she can knock onto the floor. This morning she was shoving the change my husband left on the bathroom counter onto the floor. And like Sweetie, she likes to shove small pieces of gravel around on the floor.

OMG--- Mine do! Especially Sidney and Pirate. Two of my four cats are longhairs, and it seems like there are tumbleweeds of hair all over my dang house. My kitchen has linoleum flooring, and there are lots of little corners and stuff for these tumbleweeds of fur to hide so it's impossible to keep up with it all. But when they blow around the floor, like if I walk by or the air kicks on, they see it move and they go after it. They will touch it and then wait for it to move again and then touch it again. I've got some weird babies, let me tell you. Mia likes to crunch up the dried up leaves that have been falling off of one of my plants that is dying (don't worry- it's non-toxic- if it weren't, Sidney would be dead right now long story). Then she spits it all out and goes to the next leaf. It must be a sound or textural thing, but whatever it is it's weird. Sidney also likes to take straws into the kitchen and slide them around the floor and chase/pounce on them.

Ari has discovered the fun that can be had with a box of mac-n-cheese.

Sheba (bridge kitty) had a fondness for cactus. The thornier the better. And if she couldn't bat it around, she'd sleep on it.

Ok, now the cactus thing is just plain weird...

Attitude and Nuts just like to eat the snow on my boots and that come off my boots(neither my driveway nor Paul's is treated so it's safe and 90% of the time I have just been outside dealing with the outside cats.)

They will play with anything, if it can be batted around they will.

Bottle caps. I am inundated with bottle caps.

I am a big fan of diet green tea (comes in 16.9 oz bottles with a distinctive green cap). I go through these like you wouldn't believe (at least 5-6 a day!). Every time I sit at my desk and uncap one, Sophie is there. She sits on the footboard of the bed or the armrest of my chair, peeks her little head up over the edge of the desk, and then darts in like a ninja, paws them onto the ground, and squirrels them away. Then, every time I vacuum, I have to go around with a trash bag first and pick them up, because they get stuck in the vacuum cleaner.

Occasionally, I will have a Vitamin Water instead of the ever-present green tea. This is like Sophie's Christmas. The larger caps on those bottles are the best thing EVER in her opinion, and she will happily carry them around in her mouth like a cat-sized frisbee, or toss them across the floor and pounce on them, for HOURS.

I wish I had known the lure of bottle caps before I spent who knows how much on cat toys! Her collection of catnip mice, sparkly balls, and other "boring" things are sitting in a little basket, collecting dust.

No kidding!! Holland has way more fun with "free" toys than the ones I've bought for her.

Yeah, Nora has taken a liking to a sweater jacket my mom got me for Christmas a couple years ago. It is knit from a microfiber yarn, and Nora just loves it. She kneads it, licks it, and drags it all around the house. It's the weirdest thing. She also loves wiffle golf balls and regular golf balls. She has ones that she plays with all night long just about every night. It must be the sound they make when they roll.

When my mom's cat Cocoa was younger, she would play fetch with empty cigarette packs. Neither of my parents smoked, so my aunt would save her empty packs and bring them when she visited. That cat knew which cabinet the packs were kept in and would stand there and look up, waiting for someone to get one down for her.

Once, she ran completely out and was driving us crazy. Going to the cabinet and meowing. (A nicotine fit?
) My mom and I actually had to beg an empty pack from a secretary at the stock broker's office. Alas, Kitty wasn't as happy with that pack. Maybe it wasn't her brand....

Max's favorite toy was shoes. He would fight with them, lay down and attack them, with biting and growls.

Pixel likes me to make little 'balls' out of facial tissue. & Firefox likes q-tips [but she's not alone in that - lots of cats do].

I generally have a handful of Ricola cough drops in my purse. Holland has JUST discovered this. Less than an hour ago I pulled 4 out from under the couch...

Really, why does anyone bother to make or buy "cat" toys?

(btw she hasn't unwrapped any of them... she just plays with them.
