I've been using Felidae Chicken and Rice canned for the past three years because of my cat's urological issues (this product contains low magnesium and ash content).

Recently I've noticed changes in the color, smell and consistency of this product, as well as my cat's stinky black feces. Additionally, I find a brown-rimmed gas bubble depression in the top of the food each time I open a new can.

Anyone else use and notice changes to this product?

Thanks,

Dave and "The Els"

I don't like the Felidae wet for the reasons you just described. And my guys won't eat it.

Re:black stools... it could be the food... but it could also be intestinal bleeding... which is why sharky said - vet time.

I have noticed that the Taste of the Wild dry causes my boys to produce a much, much darker stool. First few times I saw it - my heart lurched b/c I was thinking .. oh no... "tarry" stools... which means bleeding in the gut somewhere... but then I realized they ALL had the changes.

STILL ... since you have one cat ... and you are concerned... I would definitely contact your vet.

In my experience, wet food causes more stinky stools than dry. It also causes darker stools. As long as it is only really dark brown, not BLACK black, it should be okay. If it's really alarmingly black, and came out of nowhere without a food switch? Could signal intestinal bleeding. And that might have nothing to do with the food at all. A good way to tell would be if you switched them back off the food, if the stools lightened again. Then you can easily rule out bleeding.
