Am I imagining it or has Authority cheapened its dry food? It seems there is more corn in there than there used to be:

Chicken & Rice Recipe
Ingredients: Chicken, Chicken Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Corn, Animal Fat (preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Natural Flavor, Beet Pulp, Dried Egg Product, Canola Oil, Corn Oil, Potassium Chloride, Vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2 Polyphosphate, Niacin, Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamin Mononitrate, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Riboflavin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement), Choline Chloride, Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), Dicalcium Phosphate, Taurine.

I seem to recall there was gluten meal.. but not both that AND ground corn.

Also - has Wellness changed its canned food? The texture and smell seem different to me...

Yes the wellness has changed.... but Authority has always had both corn gluten and corn in one formula.. it appears they now put both corn and canola oil in it meaning they must be using a low grade fat( lol not sure how they grade that )

I haven't seen any changes in the Wellness canned, and I just started a new case? Jennie only gets one flavor, grain free chicken.

As for Authority, my mother mentioned a while back that her cats had stopped eating it, (the canned though) so she stopped buying it.

All these changes are so frustrating. You think you've finally worked out a diet that works for any given cat, and then the company changes the formula, or changes factories, adn bam, right back to square one. arg.

Yeah, I know. They are trying to eek out an extra half-penny a can or whatever in profit.

The Wellness has definitely changed. It is more "paste-y" and less like finely ground meat. And it doesn't smell as good as it did before... to my unsophisticated human nose.

After going aaalllll around the mulberry bush with different wet foods, my guys are back to eating Authority. And Nutro. With a little bit of other stuff mixed in. To make up for it, they get TOTW dry and mostly high quality treats, like bits of freeze dried chicken.

They want to make it cheaper and since they already have the owner's 'brand loyalty' they hope you won't notice the change in formula.

Not many pet owners actually read the ingredients in their cat's food, so most wouldn't notice the change unless their cat(or dog) suddenly refuses to eat the food after the change and even then they might just think the animal is 'bored' with their regular food and switch it to something else never knowing why their animal quit eating the first food.

Since I have been in both marketing and the pet industry I so KNOW this... but have also seen changes drop sales within a few months by a large margin... so saving a buck backfires so often I just wonder...
