I like to be as 'green' as possible, and have been cleaning around the house with baking soda, vinegar and water for as long as I can remember. I feel good about the natural aspects of my cleaning regimen, but must admit that I feel I could do better with a little boost of soap. Oh okay, I just miss the clean smell! (yeah, I know 'clean' has no smell... but I like things to smell purty!
)

I've been interested in trying Dr. Bronner's Pure Castile Liquid soaps for household cleaning, laundry, etc. for some time now, but remain firmly perched atop the fence about it because I know Doc Bronner's soaps contain essential oils (at least the ones I want to try: peppermint/almond/lavender), and essential oils are toxic to our little fuzzies, both topically and through ingestion or inhalation.

I would never apply any of these soaps directly to my cats (they never get baths anyway), but I'm wondering if they are safe to use around the house if used properly (i.e. HIGHLY diluted).

Anyone here use Dr. Bronner's? What do you think?

I have used it on everything from me to the cat box to the floor to my dog
... DO NOT use the Tea tree one around cats.. I found the unscented one IMHO would be best , I use it alot

Awesome. Thanks Sharky. I'm excited to try it... love multi-tasking products!

As an aside (and not at all cat related), have you ever used it for laundry? I'd like to try the lavender to wash clothes, I've heard good things!

No but I keep the lavender for showers before bed
.. I will have to look into that as local stores have the gallons and that may be cheaper than natural laundry soap

Essential oils aren't necessarily toxic.  Typically, the reaction comes from "essential oils" that aren't really essential oils, or are used improperly.  Here is a site devoted to the use of essential oils for pets in a safe manner, produced and tested by a veterinarian.  I have no vested interest in the site, just thought it might help someone out.  I have purchased a few items for my cats and never had any negative issues.  http://www.animaleo.info/cats.html

I've used essential oils professionally for 25+ years. I used to have all sorts of gadgets to infuse my home with all sorts of yummy essential oils...

Well, that ended when I got cats :)  And contrary to some who sell essential oils or flea preps with essential oils, no it is NOT the purity of the essential oil, it is just that cats do not have the metabolic pathways to process these things, and they end up getting toxic, sometimes even lethal!

But. I would not worry about using Dr. Bonners cleaning supplies. First, they are highly diluted and the small amount of essential oils in the product evaporates quickly.

I use their soaps and I LOVE them!!
