Hey guys, haven't been active in ages and I just started posting again, yay!

Anyways, I am looking for a food suggestion for my cats. Typically I get food donated at work that we can't use so I will bring home a bag here and there (better foods, no by-products, etc) I used to just throw it all into a bin and mix it up. But Da-Ku was having constant loose and really extra smelly stools. So I keep them a little more consistent. Currently I was mixing just Kirtland Signature and something by Nutro. Threw out the bag, can't remember... My other cat Noira just started losing her hair on her ears. It's not earmites, she doesn't itch or anything, it just got really thin to almost bare in patches. Just on the ears. From researching online I am going to try to rule out allergies first.

I would like grain-free for starters, as I think Da-Ku may be sensitive, although I am not sure to what exactly, thinking grains... I would also like low fat and preferably an alternative meat product... not chicken or beef or fish. Maybe lamb, vennison, etc... This way I will see if eliminating all of the common allergens will help. If not I will figure things out from there lol.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Taste of the Wild seems to be the most cost effective grain free, but I don't think it's a "different" meat source. Can't remember right now.

But Natural Balance has their grain free LID (limited ingredient diets) that are different meat sources, maybe?

Otherwise I think for grain frees you can look into Orijen, or Now, CORE, Felidae, or Instinct. Not sure what their ingredients lists are, though.

Really the stool issue has been an ongoing thing for about 2 years now. First I had him tested for parasites, clear. Then I realized he was chewing on cardboard boxes... duh! So I cleared those all up and it continued. So I am playing around with foods now.

The Nutro is almond shaped sort of.

I completely forgot to update on what food I chose. I picked up Blue Buffalo's Blue Wilderness Evolutionary diet. It says high protein low carb, no corn wheat or soy. It's duck too. So we'll see how this goes. If Noira's ears don't get better or continue to lose hair, I will head into the vet for their opinion. I have tried everything I can think of for Da-Ku and his loose stool problem.

They are not at all picky on foods so I got lucky there. This one waqs very expensive but it doesn't really matter since their diet happens to be rather important lol. Thanks

Sounds like you have a good handle on things. The diarrhea might be helped with some probiotic daily.

Definitely get them off the Nutro, it's a terrible food since it was bought out by Nestles a couple of years ago, the food is very inconsistent.
