I watched the last bit of Jeopardy tonight and the Final Jeopardy question asked something along the lines of "What word appears only 2 times in The Bible."

The answer was "Christian".

I was curious and did a Google search and found several references that indicate that that is not correct.

Apparently the word "Christian" appears 3 times in The Bible.

The word Christian is first mentioned in the Bible in Acts 11:26.

And is found in only two other places in the Bible:
Acts 26:28
1 Peter 4:16.

That's a total of 3 times, not 2 as was claimed on the show.

I guess they need to go back and revisit that show and see if the wrong answer they allowed made a difference to whomever won.

Hmmm. But then again, they could nit pick!

Acts 11:26, "and when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And it came about that for an entire year they met with the church, and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch."

Acts 26:28, "And Agrippa replied to Paul, "In a short time you will persuade me to become a Christian."

1 Peter 4:16, "but if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not feel ashamed, but in that name let him glorify God."

They could claim that one is plural while the other 2 words are singular.

Me neither. Google is my friend!

I went to their website and sent them a comment. Not sure if they will ever get it, but who knows. I did tape the show last night before going to bed. I'm going to watch it later and see if it actually would have made a difference to the contestants.

I had some time so I just watched the ending again. It wouldn't have made a difference to who won, but the payout for the winner would have been vastly different!

Going into Final Jeopardy here are the results with the word "Christian" as the correct answer.

3rd place:
Starting amount = $ 7,600.00
Amount bet $-7,000.00

Answer given: Jesus

Total at the end $ 600.00

2nd Place:
Starting amount = $ 11,000.00
Amount bet $ - 4,600.00

Answer given: Christian

Total at the end $ 15,600.00 (WINNER)

1st Place:
Starting amount = $ 14,200.00
Amount bet $- 8,000.00

Answer given: Faith

Total at the end $ 6,200.00

Hmmmm... even though it didn't affect the outcome, I'm wondering if it's an issue of which version of the Bible? Or do we assume they mean the King James version?

The topic was "Religious Words"

The exact question states:

"Surprisingly this word appears only twice in The New Testament, once in Acts and once in The First Epistle of Peter."

I think most of those Bible questions are based on the KJV and not some of the other newer ones.

Do you know that only the KJV has the word "unicorn" in it - the rest of the versions changed it to read ox or oxen when refering to the horn.

IF the unicorn was not a real animal at some point, why would the Bible writers put it in there? The Bible is not a fantasy story. So unicorns did exist at one point

King James is a version... There are versions and Literal translations from the original Hebrew and Greek... Versions are usually written for the language and the time from another same language Bible...Think of the happening s when King James wanted a Bible for the people

Either way, I think it was a bad question. It doesn't indicate the version, so it can be assumed that it could be any version. However, as most Biblical questions are based on the King James version, it can be assumed that this question was too. And according to the King James version, the word is used 3 times: Twice in the singular and once as plural.

When you say The Bible, the version you choose could certainly account for the difference. I do not see a reference to the version used so will conclude it was a simple matter of using different versions.

Yeah, it was a bad question! Especially if they were going for the plural vs. non-plural as a distinction.

I think it would be fair to invite the losing contestants back, even if on different shows. And adjust the winner's amount of cash.

I am mainly a "Wheel of Fortune" watcher. Sometimes, someone misprounces a word and it is considered a wrong answer. Then, the very next day, you may see someone misprounce a word and get to continue spinning the wheel. It almost always has an impact on the outcome of the game and makes me mad.
