this past summer my cat James was riddled with fleas and it tore of most of his hair and it is slowly coming back after treatments. Also he had bad tape worms and we midicated him for that. He looks better but still missin alot of fur. This is sooooo strange! We have 6 kitties and they all live indoor 100% of the time, how did this efffect just one kitty? I am greatful but baffled.

Not all cats suffer from a flea allergy. All the cats may have had the fleas, but if they aren't allergic to them, they won't have the drastic reactions your James did.

All cats should be treated for the fleas and tapeworms, though.

Glad to know James is doing better.

Once the cat has been treted for fleas, any suggestions for treating the sores left from her scratching? We have a foster kitty who is absolutely covered with scabs, mostly the results of her biting and scratching before we could get rid of the fleas. We've bathed her and that's helped but she still seems to be suffering.

Any creams, maybe? There aren't any infections, thank goodness, just scabby, itchy spots.

Ondie, a vet told me that it is ok to put Neosporin on cats, but try to not let them lick it. It is ok if they do, but it won't heal if they keep licking at it. Call your vet and see if he thinks Neosporin is ok. I don't suggest this for the OP because it sounds like he is missing a lot of fur.

Did you take him to the vet when he lost his hair? It sounds like it got pretty bad, poor baby!

I have a cat with flea allergey, and she will get bald patches if I am late putting Advantage on her. I saw one of your posts & you said you put a flea collar on a cat, please don't use them anymore. It is obvious that you did it meaning well, but they are full of pestisides and have killed cats before. Imagine wearing pesticides around your neck! Also, never buy/use flea products that are sold in grocery stores, they are harmful to kitties and do not work good for getting rid of fleas. You can get safe & effective flea meds from any vet, and you do not have to have a vet visit, just go in and ask to buy flea products.

The best ones are Advantage, Frontline, and Revolution. Yes, they cost more than grocery store flea meds, they will not harm your cat if you use it like the boxs says, and they WILL kill all of the fleas. They come in little vials of liquid, you just squeeze the liquid on their neck between their shoulder blades.

As for the hair loss, if it is a flea allergey, this cat will always need to be UTD on safe flea meds. All cats should be UTD on flea meds regardless, lol.
