i got a cat, whos been fine, and adjusted nicely, hes 7 years old, and he had some diarrhoea for a day but next day he was fine then just a couple weeks later he got diarrhoea, thinking it was same one off, i just gave him water and dry cat biscuits that day, but then he had vomited up when i got back from uni, everything he had eaten, and had diarrhoea all day, so i tuk him off all food other than cat biscuits and water and took him to vet. vet gave him some shots amoxicare injection, dexafort injection metronidazole orally. then gave me some liquid antibiotic milbermax to give my cat, and told me i should take him off the whiskers as it might be too rich for him, and gave me some science healthy start food for the cat, which i give 50 grms a day,
well i was browsing online and a few websites have said that canned food is a necessity and dry cat food can cause problems, but the vet told me i should keep him on dry cat food ??
i was thinking of adding a couple spoonfuls of tinned cat food a day to his diet, like just one table spoon and 30 grms of the dry food alongside his water and cat biscuits. his diarrhoea from my own notice is starting to thicken up again, so im guessing he will get better although gradually.
what are your guys suggestions? i dont think its worms cuz hes been wormed a year ago, and also hes 7 years old, hes very gentle, calm tempered and what not, doesnt scratch or bite, and normally not playful, but hes been getting playful lately like with string etc, and hes more active in running up down the stairs, he wont go outside, ive tried putting him outside but he cries and runs back inside.

what do you guys suggest about the food, what is wrong with him etc?

Hi, my cat Billy has a sensitive stomach,he gets sick if he has the wrong food or if it's too rich, sounds like your kitty has too, I think cats are just like people and its a case of finding the right food suitable for them.My cats have both wet and dry food, I see you are not that far away from me, good to talk to a fellow Uk'er. My cats have kitekat tinned food (thats the only wet food that I have found to suit Billys stomach) and Go Cat Indoor dry food, he can only eat the indoor food, all the others make him sick too. Like I said I think its just down to what suits your cat, it took me quite a while of trying Billy on different foods before I found a suitable one. Good luck and welcome to TCS. x

I think canned (wet) food is really the best for so many reasons. One is water content of canned food. It's so much higher, which helps keep the kidneys healthy and functioning properly. Secondly, many dry foods are loaded with fillers and carbohydrates. This often leads to kitties becoming overweight. Most importantly, though, dry food sucks the liquid from the cats' body often leading the cat to drink more water and to develop conditions such as chronic constipation and kidney problems.

Having said that, I have one cat that isn't a big fan of canned food so she gets mainly dry with 2 small wet food servings a day. My other cat gets 2 large wet food servings a day and approx. 1/8 cup of dry food daily.

Check out the cat nutrition forum for more discussions on canned vs. dry.

hi there, would you say that its recommended because the vet told me to give him this one, as thats what all his patients are being fed, that i feed my cat that food, and give him a spoonful of canned food a day, because he usually hardly touches his tinned food prior to him getting unwell instead he used to eat lots of biscuits but the little bit of wet food he did eat he didnt eat much of it.

settle on a premium canned food and stop changing his diet

food: check out for quality ingredients

this web site has plenty of threads about quality cat food - check out Aunti Crazy(http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/member.php?u=16355), or Sharky's(http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/member.php?u=8708) posts about food - there are others that give good ideas about foods to feed your cat - those are just two members that came to mind right now

have you checked out the Cat Health Info?
http://www.thecatsite.com/Cats/Cat_Health.html
one of the headings to read is: http://www.thecatsite.com/Health/78/...n-A-Recap.html

http://www.thecatsite.com/Health/100...ng-My-Cat.html especially the line about "Switch foods gradually"

http://www.thecatsite.com/Health/81/...-Your-Cat.html

since you've seen the vet - what is the vet saying?

personally - I don't buy cat food at the grocery store - except for Trader Joes

I stay away from any fish foods ...

research, research, research
