Where to post this??

I'm going to assume here since it is, for the most part, a health question.

I have no experience in this area as all of my cats have always been fixed.

Angelo had been out of work when I took in his cat and she was about 6 months old at the time.
Well, he's working now and can afford to have her spayed now, but she went into heat early Sunday.

How long do heat cycles generally last, and how long is the window in between so that he can get her in and get her fixed ASAP?

Behavior wise I'd say she's in the tolerable range, she doesn't call much, mostly just affectionate and doing the chirruping butt-dance.
I just feel really bad for her because she's so stressed and throwing hair like mad.

Call the vet and make an appt to have her spayed. It may cost a bit more, but can be done. It will put everyone out of their misery and take care of things if she escapes while in heat.

My Wrinkles was in heat before she was altered and they charged $16 extra.
Since it is her first heat it should not last long.
They can call everyweek though.

Her escaping won't happen, I've been a vigilant cat owner for a very long time and I live alone.
My doors are double entries.
I've yet to have a cat get out and one is a door dasher, used to living outside.

You are unaware of the extreme limitations on just how many vets there are here and what they will and won't do.
Trust me, I'm the one that's made all the inquiries about cost, age, etc.
There isn't a vet here that does low cost, a spay while in heat, or a spay/abort, I've checked.
I just want to know how long the heat cycle lasts because the vet will take her without appointment the following day.
In my excitement of having found a vet to do a spay for under $200 I forgot to ask, and I'm not going to make another long distance call this month.

Mine didn't charge me any extra to do Attitude while she was in heat. However it was their vet who told me that Attitude was 'definitely male.' I already was pretty sure I had a female and when she went into heat and Nuts(her brother) hopped on to do what they do I knew, even though I was already positive she was female, she went into heat at 5 months. I caught him right after he hopped on, that is how I found out she was in heat. I also think that since they knew I had an unaltered male, and since both Attitude and Nuts have feline leukemia, it would be in everyone's best interest to get her done. They got her in the next day.

The TNR that we used for the outside ferals spayed Mama while she was in heat, Goldie while she was pregnant and Biter who wasn't either.

Many many years ago ... Kandie went into heat at 14 weeks( note Kandie would be 21 today) and the vet spayed her while in heat ... this was just a reg vet .. Most vets do charge more I believe her spay was 200 $

Attitude's spay was around $225, but it was worth it to have a vet I trusted doing it. This was the same vet that had spayed Abby, my Old English Sheepdog(RB 11/06) back in 1995 so it was worth every penny to have someone I trusted doing it.

I think most places around here charge about the same, unless they are low cost and part of a TNR program.

My vet wants me to wait 10 days from when she starts calling to spay a cat. I guess at that point she isn't really in active heat anymore (in most cases). So take note of the day she started calling and make the appointment for 10 days after.
