We are awaiting final bloodwork results, but the vet is pretty sure one of my babies is diabetic and has slightly reduced kidney function.

I have been free feeding all twelve Purina Indoor, but I suspect that has now come to a screeching halt.

What would be the best food for him assuming her diagnosis is confirmed by the bloodwork? The shelves at my vets are stocked with Science Diet, and I've heard that it is little better than Purina, so I hoped to get a more objective opinion here.

Here is the best site for food information: www.yourdiabeticcat.com.

Go to "Forums"
Go to "Caring For Your diabetic Cat"
Go to "Information and Resources" sticky
Go to "Food Lists and Carb calculator"

My cat (well all of them to make it easier) is on the Friskies wet. Yes, you are right. No more dry food for your guy. Its odd, I was feeding Purina Indoor also when Goofy came down with FD.

I have 11 cats and all but my urinary crystal cat get wet food now. I don't want anymore FD. I had another cat also who had it.

Good luck to you with this. It really isn't difficult or expensive to treat. So don't get down.

You may PM me at any time and if I can share some of my experiences, I'd be glad to.

Thanks for the link farleyv.
Actually, considering his background I was expecting much worse than FD. I'm just so relieved it is something treatable! I'm off to visit the info site now, thanks again.

that site is a great resource as is www.gorbzilla.com

In personal indirect experience GRAIN free dry and wet can be a great way to either reverse it or keep stable ... I too am a PM away

Thanks for all the links, unfortunately the final blood panel came back kidney failure, the vet said it appeared he had ingested something toxic. He's indoor only, and I'm totally OCD about cleaning products, medicines and food, so I suspect it was my houseplant. Hopefully it hasn't gone too far, he will eat a bit of the wet kidney Rx food and is drinking enough water to not be dehydrated, I'm working on reading the CRF sticky. The plant of course has been re-homed.

UM that would be good if you read the title but NOT for what turned out to be the issue... Try reading the WHOLE thread
