I dropped Bugsy up at 9 am today for his 1 month follow up visit... Depending on how well his gums responding to the treatment (Stomatitis), he was going to have extractions today - he has a lot of resorptive lesions, at least 4... Those couldn't be removed the last time for two reasons: 1- Not enough tissue left for sutures, due to his stomatitis (yep, that is how bad it was); 2- The state of his gums was SO bad, his dentist said he would not be able to deal with the extreme pain...

For what I can see, his gums are responding well, but only when they put him under they will be able to tell.

He also has Stage 4 periodontal disease, so he might need more extractions; they will have a better picture today - hopefully.

So, They will either retreat his resorptive lesions (desensitize it), or, if they can, extract it. The other teeth, they will try to save as many as they can.

I will pick him up at 6pm... I am not quite sure what I am going to be dealing with it, and I am freaking out... My poor little baby...

On another note, I left my camera in there for them to take pictures - unfortunately I did not think about this on the first visit... But I will be able to compare the 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 yr stages of the treatment visually - I think it will be interesting since this is such a new type of treatment...

Please, if you all could spare some vibes for my boy, I would really appreciate...

Thank you...

Poor Bugsy! Of course he gets lots of

Our last cat had all of his teeth on one side extracted, and once his gums healed he was fine. He got painkillers (shots) for a few days (he was a feral, so pills were out of the question), and recovered quickly, despite his advanced age.

Good luck Bugsy!!

Hugs for Carolina!!

If it makes you feel any better, Holland is two weeks after she had her teeth extracted and she's doing great. She's been eating like a little piggy, and although I was worried that she hadn't really been grooming, she gave herself a nice long bath this morning (while sitting on my shoulder as I was laying on my side in bed, but still...
).

There's no place like home
My Pinky went thru this last Friday - he has 6 teeth left in his mouth after all the extractions.

My advice to you is to either get injectible pain meds or a fentynal pain patch. Opening up his mouth to insert a pill after massive extractions will be painful to him and you won't want to do it. And pill pockets are out because he may not be able to eat for a bit.

Buy his favorite canned food and don't be surprised if he doesn't eat anything for a day. And if you can keep him out of a room with a bed in it, do so. Pinky hid under the bed for the first 1-1/2 days after his surgery and I couldn't get him out for anything.

Pinky had 5 teeth extracted and one was already absorbed. He doesn't have stomatitis, but I was told that cats in general don't have enough gum tissue for sutures anyway.

Sending major vibes to get you through the next few days. Pinky was feeling much better by late Sunday (2 days post surgery).

I had the BEST of news today!!!!!!
Bugsy responded amazingly well to his treatment, AND DOES not need extractions (at the moment, anyways!)

His Stomatitis went from a horrible level, to a border line Stomatitis/bad Gingivitis!!! Don't take me wrong, he DOES have stomatitis, and will have it for the rest of his life, but the inflammation is WAY, WAY down....
There are no more lesions around his throat, the lesions on the roof of his mouth are GONE, and the outside of one side of his mouth is already PINK!

He just needs to take his meds once a day as we have been doing, and we will be going for a follow up visit in three months!
I am IN SHOCK! This is THE BEST thing EVER!!!!!!! No surgery for him... No pain killers... He is already eating.... His Resorptive lesions do not have nerves exposed, so he does not needs to have extractions right now
It is ALL fantastic news!!!!!

Here are the pictures of his way better mouth!

I am a 1000% in this treatment!

Oh Gail, you have no idea.... I am sooooooo relieved!
I got there blind, with my heart on my throat, expecting the worst... then They handed me the camera, and the doctor came down to tell me all the good news... I could not believe it! He went from a Stomatitis level 2.3, to a level 1! Level ONE!!!!!!

So today he didn't even need the steroid shots they first gave him (local, inside the lesions) the healing was so good, they could forgo that!
, or desensitizing treatments for his resorptive lesions, as the nerves are not exposed (finally could take a good look at that)
- All they had to do was some extra cleaning, as they were able to do it deeper this time due to less inflammation
!!!
And he is as good as new!!!
I could not believe when I saw the pictures... I will have an AMAZING night tonight!

ohhhh yeaaaahhhhhh! He was like that before... The Stomatitis was... They will send me the original pics from their files - NOT a nice sight to see... bad, bad, BAD.
So much better!!! Both of us!!!

I was assured by his dentist today that his level of pain is minimal now

While before it was awful!

I can not tell you how happy I am today... Just a BIG HUGE relief! HUGE!
