What's with this ringed tail? I see it once in a while in certain lighting... Genever is all grey, or blue, whatever you want to call her, with a few white bits on the back of her neck, maybe scars from shots? But sometimes I see these stripes on her tail....

Is it like black leopards where they are all black but they still have blacker spots that you see in certain lighting? Is my baby a blue tabby or some nonsensical thing like that? In any case, she is my beautiful little girl..

Is she as soft as she looks? Her fur has a nice sheen on it in that picture.

Lots of cats have an underlying tabby pattern - black cats most notably. I don't think it would actually make her a tabby since it's just her tail.

What a pretty kitty!

My black cat has subtle stripes under certain lighting as well.

She is pretty soft, yes. Except when she's been rolling around in the litterbox..

That's pretty interesting that black and blue cats aren't really solid colors.. Are white cats the same?

I'm not the expert on here, but I believe that all cats are genetically tabbies... as their ancestors were... so sometimes there are ghost patterns in the fur.... as I understand it. I don't think that classifies their COAT as tabby.

She is gorgeous! What a pretty little girl.

I'll have to see if I can find a picture of Whisper, our little grey girl. She's all grey, but has a ringed tail, too; it shows up under certain lighting conditions. I might have a picture of her tail with the rings.

BooBoo, Whisper's son, is our tuxedo. In certain light, you can see the rings on his tail, too, even though he's a really dark grey tux.

Genever and Whisper could be sisters. But I think Genever is bigger than our Whisp (who really is just a whisp of a kitty) Genever's really pretty!

Thank you again for the compliments. BF decided to do a photo shoot last night, and so I thought I'd share another ringtail pic:

White isn't actually a 'normal' color at all. It's a masking color which can hide any color underneath it. My english is too bad to explain it any better, so someone else can maybe explain it better.
(White spots then again are also different from the solid 'masking' white).

White cats are absent of any pigmentation (or color), at least that's my understanding.
