Luca (our 11 month old) hurt his back left paw the other day and has been limping ever since. We didn't bring him to the vet right away because we figured it would just heal by itself but its been 3 days now and he's still limping. He's now getting bored of sitting all the time and has started trying to play with our other cat Geoffery. Now his paw seems to hurt him even more and if we touch the bottom of it he meows in pain.

Is there anything we should be doing to help him revover?

Thank you!

IMO, I think at the minimum you need to call the vet now and at least relay the symptoms over the phone and see what they say. Now, being a nervous momma, I'd be calling the vet while I had my cat in his carrier in the car, and the car would be sitting in the vet's parking lot.

The thing is, you just don't know what it is? Maybe he got a sliver of glass or something the paw? Maybe he pulled something? But, if it hurts enough he can't play and cries when you touch it, time to call the vet.

Best wishes for it being something small and easily treatable.

I have to agree - if it's getting worse there's something wrong that can't be diagnosed over the internet. for you and Luca!

Thinking of you and Luca, good job getting him to the vet quickly. Let us know what happens.

So we got the results of the x-rays and it turns out it is his knees. He has luxating patellas in both his hind legs (worse on the left). The vet said he needs surgery but it costs $2,000! We don't have that kind of money to spend on us let alone Luca.

Has anyone ever had this before, or heard of this before? He is currently on cage rest, vet recommended, for two weeks after which we take him back to the vet and see if there is any progress with the knees fixing themselves. If not we don't know what were going to do.

Anyone who has any help or comments for me I would very much appreciate it. We are looking for nutritional supplements that could help, non-surgical options really anything that could help our little man!!

Thank you!

I am very sorry to hear about this. Cosequin for cats could probably help reduce wear on the joints, but I've never heard of this getting better without surgery, in adult cats.

Did the vet at least give him something for pain? The problem of course is there isn't really a safe long term pain medication for cats. ( I am against the use of metacam in cats.)

Can you do some things to raise the money for the surgery?

Have a bake sale, "To benefit Luca" Have a community garage sale, again, "to benefit Luca", ask people to donate unwanted items for sale.

Have a Luca Benefit car wash weekend.

Get your community involved, many people would love to help an animal, if they only knew a way to do it without expending too much time or energy <s>. Donating to save a local kitty from suffering a life long painful condition certainly would apply!

When I see a jar on my vet's counter with "Help save this cat" type of story I always throw a dollar or two in.

Will the vet accept payments for this? Surely if you are a long standing client they will be willing to work with you.

You are still in shock over the diagnosis. Don't panic, something will work out.

Get Arnica Montana 30X homeopathic remedy no side effects, put two drops in luca's water a day, make sure he drinks the water half hour before or after a meal ,not whilst hes eating, or during food, and just leave it out anyhow after hes taken it, it will speed up his recovery reduce and mental and physical trauma/stress, and also reduce inflammation, bruising, and help even sprained muscles or twisted nerves return to normal faster. x
lots of vibes for luca, keep us updated

Luca has been diagnosed with luxating patellas, which require surgery to fix. This supplement may or may not help with pain, but always check with the attending vet before giving your cat anything like this. The cat may be on other medications already, or there may be other contraindications.
