In the last 4+ years, my deaf kitty, Peanut Butterum, has come a long, long way. She no longer has to be at Sassy's side, her BFF. In fact, the two of them seem to have paired off differently, with Peanut/Trace and Sassy/Mischief being items. She doesn't hide days on end under the bed anymore, in fact, she is quite often fully in charge of the living room cat tree.
But, we just made a new discovery. I was leaning back on the sofa with her on my chest, and I started talking to her in a low voice with my face against the side of her head. The vibrations apparently are similar to a sound to her, because she has been here for over an hour, purring and kissing while I've been telling her what a good lil' "Nut Nut" she is.
