I'm ripping through the house, doing some cleaning and some laundry. I have several CDs in the player: a mix of AC/DC songs (love the Black Ice cd), a mix of Aerosmith, and a mix of songs from Kin, Etta James, and White Lies. It seems that I have music playing all the time, when I baking, when I'm cleaning, when I'm in the car running errands. There's always music playing. But I never listen to the radio....I hate commercials.

I'm a classic rock fan and I enjoy Aerosmith, Deep Purple, etc. with a little bit of alternative rock and some blues thrown in. Lately I've been listening to Billy Idol...love Rebel Yell and White Wedding. (Oh and I'm in my mid-50s, but still love rock. DH says I'll have music blaring in my car when I'm driving around in my 80s.)

What about you? What do you listen to? And when do you play music?

Just bein' nosy.

On a daily basis I listen to whatever is new- lady gaga, taylor swift, jay z, etc..I just like to have something with a fast beat to keep me focused, especially when I'm at the gym. Music keeps me going at the treadmill..
Generally my favorite genres are classic rock and disco (like cobra starship). I love Queen, my favorite artists of all time.

Metal is my favourite!!!

However, I have a rather wide range of genres on my iPOD. Metal, country, foreign (Japanese, Danish and some others), Elvis, 60's, 70's, loads of 80's. Some techno, classical, big band, new age classical, pop, soft rock, show tunes.

Basically anything except Rap!! I can't stand Rap!!

You name it... the only stuff I don't really like are gangsta rap and death metal... I don't like hearing about violence in that rap, and if you're supposedly singing in English and i can't understand you... why am I listening? I'm a classically trained singer, I want to hear the words. Other than those, I will listen to anything.

I was a college radio DJ. I have a healthy respect for DJ's, I guess...

I also have a huge music collection. Everything from Bach, Chopin and Tchaikovsky, to Metallica, Scott Joplin, Carlos Vives and a fair amount of belly dance music. I have over 1000 CD's, plus a few hundred 12" vinyl records... and the turntable to play them on. I have something from nearly every genre of music out there. Barry Manilow, Peter Paul & Mary, John Denver, Lady Gaga, Backstreet Boys, broadway, country, Celtic, bluegrass, zydeco, reggae... hhmmm... what else... a lot.

Music has been a lifelong passion... so I'll soak it all up...

Classic rock in a strange way, because we don't like The Who, The Rolling Stones, and have to be in the mood for Aerosmith. Deep Purple being the favorite, though Led Zeppelin's not far behind. Also like Blues - but traditional, like Muddy Waters and BB King. Also like Johnny Winter... Some Jazz, our musicians being Pat Metheny, Chick Korea, Stanley Clarke, Edgar Winter.... We are never in the car without tunes, though don't play much while at home these days - usually have a movie or something going on TV (Gary's ADD, so it helps him focus to have something going).

These days we've been in a Humble Pie mood, though our favorites include AC/DC, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy (though see below), Allman Brothers, early Heart...

Also enjoy Johnny Cash.

We tend to prefer musicians over bands. Enjoy Thin Lizzy if Gary Moore is lead guitarist, otherwise we won't listen to it. Enjoy Scorpions and UFO when Michael Shanker is lead guitarist. Thank kind of thing. Love Deep Purple Mark I and Mark II especially (1969 - 1973), but like the album Burn, and always enjoy Rainbow (the band Ritchie Blackmore left to create in 1975).

I will listen to almost anything, except rap and country. My favorite genre is progressive metal (Dream Theater, Tool, Symphony X, 3, Queensryche, etc.) but on my iTunes I have everything from Beethoven to Meshuggah to BB King to Jody Fisher.

Classic rock - classic prog, psychedelic, kraut rock, 70s metal. Pretty much every single genre of metal (not too into folk or gothic metal though) in any language and from any country if it sounds good. Some newer AOR/melodic rock but usually only when it's from vocalists that have been around for a long time or have a very strong 70s influence. (such as Jeff Scott Soto or Jørn Lande)
Not really a fan of the 80s glam metal/rock bands.

Death metal is an acquired taste - or should I say you have to acquire an ear for it? After listening to it for a while, all but the further end of brutal and some tech death vocalist are easy to understand.

If you wanted to give it another listen, go for the OLD swedish stuff. Newer - but you'd probably find Hypocrisy melodic enough to get into. But if you don't like violent lyrics in rap, that'll bug you about death metal, too.

A lot of people never really talk about mark I.
Have you heard Captain Beyond? If not, there are some really good live videos on youtube. Go watch them.

Also, since you mention Burn and I've mentioned Glenn Hughes on here several times, have you heard his stuff?

oh, a loaded question. My tastes run from AC/DC to Frank Zappa, via Peter, Paul and Mary, Marty Robbins, John Lee Hooker, Leadbelly, Dion, Metallica, Ozzy and a bit of Green Day, Killers, Jet and White Stripes and Bob Marley and many others. I do not listen to rap/hiphop and the tripe they call pop.

Hard Rock, classic rock and heavy metal. My favorite bands to listen to are Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, AC/DC, Scorpions, Megadeth, Anthrax. Queensryche up to Operation Midcrime is amazing. I just can't get into Metallica all that much anymore, they have really disappointed me the last few years.

I am learning to play the guitar. I like Bluegrass Gospel and that is what I am trying to play and sing. By the way, I am past 60. You young folks never let anyone tell you you are too old to learn something new.

I have a wide range of musical taste, but the majority of time I listen to 80's alternative rock, Goth, Darkwave, Industrial, EBM. I will listen to almost anything except country and rap, depends on my mood.

I'm a mega-Purple fan, but primarily with Ian Gillian as the lead. Coverdale was OK, but I wasn't crazy about him. I still listen to Blackmore's Rainbow from time to time. DH is a big Zepplin fan and could listen to them constantly; I think he has everything Zepplin has ever recorded. Edgar Winter. Oh yeah, we're Winter fans, too. And we like Stevie Ray Vaughn.

If you ever get a chance to see Heart, take it; we saw them two years ago in NY, I think it was, and they were excellent. Her voice is beautiful. Oh, and I can't forget Jethro Tull; they put on a great show.

I was never a Stones fan. Jagger completely turned me off.

No country, no rap. No way. (sorry)

But for some reason, I just love Aerosmith.

That's the sort of thing I always see people say that doesn't make sense. Why do people always say Coverdale for mark III? Mark III had two vocalist, not one, which is what made those songs sound the way they did. Surely people can tell it was two people harmonizing?
(and it was their style in particular that drove Blackmore out)

Punk, particularly Social Distortion and The Ramones.
Alternative country, Hank Williams III, Shooter Jennings.
Rockabilly, almost anyone who plays it well, especially Brian Setzer.
Classic rock, Blues, classic country. I could listen to Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, and Emmylou Harris all day long.
I like some of the newer rock like Clutch.
New Age kind of stuff is good while doing or getting massages. Enya is great for that.

People pretty much assumed that David Coverdale was the lead for Deep Purple when Gillian left the band. I thought it was understood that there were really two vocalists....honest I did. But Coverdale is the one who most remember. I just say "Coverdale". Either way, I didn't like the way the band sounded after Gillian left. And I can see why Richie Blackmore left....it was no longer Deep Purple.
