Brittany is 18, spayed, lost a lot of weight 5ish years ago, and is indoor. A month ago or so we took her to the vet since her appetite went away but Pepcid AC fixed that, she's even put on some weight. The vet said her kidneys
and liver were comprimised but not severely.
That's all I can think of for background.

Since last night, she's been trying to pee frequently but only able to manage a few drops. She has peed normally too though. There were a few pink drops near her litter box too. She's also acting unusually alert.

What can this mean?
What can we do? We would like to avoid the vet.

I'm sorry but you CANNOT, if you care about your cat, "avoid the Vet" in this case. Frequent trips to the litterbox, peeing small frequent amounts that are "pink drops" (this is blood in the urine, by the way) is indicative of a URINARY TRACT INFECTION and if left untreated, not only will your dear cat continue to suffer, but she will end up with a severe and life threatening Kidney Infection.

She's in pain. She needs to see a Vet NOW - today, ASAP. There is no way around this. There is no time to sit and wait. There is no home cure for this. As in humans, urinary tract infections are very very uncomfortable, I can tell you this from first hand experience. It is a discomfort I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Your poor cat needs to be seen by a Vet today, there is no other alternative. The Vet will try to obtain a urine sample, and will start your kitty on proper antibiotics.

Here is a link with information about Feline Urinary Tract Infections:

Please do not allow your dear cat to continue to suffer as she is clearly doing. Please - find it in your heart to get her into the Vet today.

Sounds like she may have some trouble with her urinary tract. Calling the vet is the best option.

I definitely urge you to get her to the vet. Sounds like she has a severe UTI (urinary tract infection). It is painful for her to urine, and she can block up & die if left untreated.
