I have two cats, 11 year old Chicken and 2 year old Beef, both spayed females. We got Beef as a four week old kitten, much too young to be away from mom, but we were told she and siblings were dumped on the side of the road and were on their way to the pound (turned out not to be true). After some initial adjustment, the two became friends, playing, sleeping and grooming each other. When Beef was just over a year old she started attacking Chicken - full blown, hair flying, urine spraying cat fights. The vet thought it was displaced aggression due to a momma kitty and babies moving into the other half of our duplex. We tried blocking their view of the other cats, but ended up separating them. We swapped them in and out of the spare room for about six months before managing to get them back together. They had gone back to sleeping together and mutual grooming, with the occasional fight until yesterday when they had another major fight. The fighting started up again about a week ago when momma kitty came into heat. We've tried putting Beef outside to burn off some energy, but she is terrified and won't leave the deck. I really don't want to get rid of Beef. She is a precious little siamese darling, super sweet to us. Chicken can't continue to be abused, however. Any suggestions?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Please do not get rid of Beef. I agree with your vet. Blame the problem on the momma stray cat. Have you tried calming remedies for Beef - like Feliway diffuser and/or Rescue Remedy?

Get them both back in for vet checks, something could be wrong, Chicken is a senior kitty and because of that will need to be checked for problems associated with senior cats.
As yayi suggested, get feliway diffusers. Separate the cats and properly reintroduce them and see if that helps at all.
Is the cat a stray? Could you trap and take her to a shelter?

You may need to approach the situation similar to how you would introducing new cats. Popular methods are redirecting their attention with a squirt bottle, a pillow thrown between them or feather toy when they begin to get aggressive.
Always try to correct them at the onset of the aggressive behavior with a firm "No!" and your "distraction device." And always praise their good behavior, and when they get along with a favorite treat.
You may want to get them each their own food and water dishes, and even their own litter boxes.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

I haven't tried Feliway yet - I am leery of products like this. Has anyone used it with success? The kitties are almost due for vaccines, so I will have the Chicken checked out thoroughly. Momma kitty is owned and loved by small children, so I could not in good conscience pack her up and be rid of her.

Then you need to talk to your neighbors and tell them to get that poor cat spay. Let them know they are creating a dangerous situation in your home. Aside from there being enough kittens, her constant heats can kill her - and how would that make their children feel?
There may be low cost solutions you can suggest to them.
