Feline Calicivirus?

Anyone have a cat/kitten that contracted it?

Mine came home from the shelter fine, but the day after, he started showing symptoms. He ended up with ALL the symptoms (poor thing) and vet had told me to prepare for the worst.

He's all better now of course, 2 years later, but I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced this? I have two cats and was told that he will always shed the FeCv things), so I'm cautious and hoping my other cat will never get it.

My friend is a breeder and her cat got it last may from a show.
I will email her about it.

Last fall, I adopted a kitten who turned out to have it and he gave it to one of my other cats. They were both very sick for a month, with mouth sores, sneezing, coughing, arthritic pain, inflamed throats, etc. My two females did not get it even though they shared water bowls, etc.

I think that cats can carry the virus for a long time, but not always for years. Eventually, they all become less contagious, I believe. (Maybe others have a better idea about this; I remember worrying that my cats would be contagious forever, and then reading a study that reassured me. But it was months ago and now I can't remember!)

If your other cat has managed to avoid the virus for two years, I don't think you need to worry.

Well for the two months he had it, we quarantined him in a separate room.
Just hope that my other cat's immune system is strong enough to keep it off forever.
