"Beginnings" (by Chicago)
see?

I play in an R&B/Beach/Rock "horn band", and we cover that tune. Even our mediocore version makes me smile!

What do you think of the Northern Kings version? Slowing it down and Leppäluoto singing it definitely changes the feel of the song.

That was Bobby McFerrin. I love that song, too!

"That's Entertainment" by the Jingle Cats never fails to put a smile on my face.

The Middle, by Jimmy Eat World. I have very low self esteem, it used to be much worse. But I was driving to work one day and I thought no one liked me (they didn't), but this song came on and I actually listened to the lyrics and it was like it was speaking right too me. Here are some of them:

Hey, don't write yourself off yet
It's only in your head you feel left out or looked down on.
Just try your best, try everything you can
And don't you worry what they tell themselves when you're away.

That's the beginning, but it always makes me feel better and it always comes on the radio at the right time.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. Makes me feel like summer no matter how dreary the day is.

If it's after midnight on a weekend and we've been drinking beer, DH and I can sing along with most of John Prine's old hits (he actually had a couple) and just laugh like crazy. There's something about those Illegal Smiles of your youth that are just wonderful to remember.

You have to be old to know his stuff.

There are a couple of songs on this thread that I went, "Oh, yeah....awwww." ("Our House" and "Brown-Eyed Girl")

But my "instant smile" song is James Taylor's "Secret O' Life".

The secret of life is enjoying the passage of time.
Any fool can do it
There ain't nothing to it
Nobody knows how we got to
The top of the hill
But since we're on our way down
We might as well enjoy the ride

'course - any James Taylor songs pretty much makes me smile.

Me too. There are a few songs I'd even forgotten about and think I need to find now to add to my collection. I got this subscription to a song download site when I got my first MP3 player and still have a few credits left.
YAY!

Thank you all for sharing the songs that make you smile. Another one popped played on my playlist and I told my brother he had to sing it with me (we like to sing songs together). He said he didn't know it, and I knew he didn't. IMO it's such a great song, and I hadn't heard it in years, probably like 24 years since I moved to Wyoming from Portland, Or. DH and I heard it in Canatas one night (In Louisiana). I danced around the store and sang it even though I hadn't heard it in 24 years.

Little River Band - Lady

I think it's just beautiful, and extremely fun to sing.

Be Safe.

I have "Volcano" by The Presidents Of The United States of America on my iPod. It's one of those dumb, catchy tunes that just cracks me up every time I hear it. The lyrics are hysterical.

Oddly enough, I really like Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" video. Of course, it could be because that Slovenian model, Jurij Bradač, is just about the hottest thing on two legs!
(Move over Gerard Butler! Make room for Jurij!)

So many - the first that comes to mind is "Mockingbird" by Carlie Simon and James Taylor.

Nanner - I love "Our House" too.

"House Party" by J Giles makes me happy.

Ok, I admit it. I'm one of the "seasoned" ones.
We're listening to "Hello it's me" by Todd Rundgren right now on a record.

Tom Waits....Step Right Up! If you haven't heard it, you need to!
The lyrics are hysterical, and better then any narcotics!

Several songs by Cibo Matto do it for me, especially "Birthday Cake" or "Know Your Chicken."

Doesn't Remind me of Anything by Audioslave, Heaven Beside Me by Alice in Chains, and Clocks by Coldplay. Partly the lyrics, and partly because the music gives me chills.

oh - how could I forget

Creeque Alley
by The Mamas & The Papas

I totally had to add it to the list because I love it so
For those who don't know, it's the story of how destiny arranged 4 people to cross paths and form a famous music act.

They wrote it because they were constantly asked "How did you all meet and form a group?" and the song answers the question
(I don't know if it was already mentioned in this thread)
