As I already mentioned, I am well aware of recent criticisms of the IPCC. I don't think it's a bad thing that they've come under fire; again, science relies on skepticism. I just don't see how your links prove that an entire body of work is a "scam" or a conspiracy to redistribute wealth.

Sorry, I forgot to thank you for turning me on to the Heartland Institute. I'm surprised to see that ExxonMobil is one of their key contributors. Hmmm, if I were given to conspiracy theories...

I don't think it is just the IPCC.

When you're trying to slow down global warming, beware of unintended consequences.

As U.S. lawmakers work on the details of their greenhouse-gas legislation, they are looking carefully at Europe's experience. Five Senate proposals all use the same basic approach, known as "cap and trade," that Europe has used for the past two years. But what the snappy name "cap and trade" means is that the market will put a price on something that's always been free: the right of a factory to emit carbon gases. That could affect the cost of everything from windowpanes to airline tickets to electricity.

Europe has already hit a few bumps with its program. There's the Dutch silicon carbide maker that calls itself the greenest such plant in the world, but now can't afford to run full-time; the French cement workers who fear they're going to lose jobs to Morocco, which doesn't have to meet the European guidelines; and the German homeowners who pay 25 percent more for electricity than they did before -- even as their utility companies earn record profits.

In other ways, the approach has been a bureaucratic morass with a host of unexpected and costly side effects and a much smaller effect on carbon emissions than planned. And many companies complain that it is unfair.
Much, MUCH more at the link. Barack is already on record, on video saying Cap & Trade will cause our electricty rates to "skyrocket." See and hear Barack's statement below at :40

World may not be warming, say scientists
Quote:
The United Nations climate panel faces a new challenge with scientists casting doubt on its claim that global temperatures are rising inexorably because of human pollution.

In its last assessment the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the evidence that the world was warming was “unequivocalâ€.
“The temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change,†said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

The doubts of Christy and a number of other researchers focus on the thousands of weather stations around the world, which have been used to collect temperature data over the past 150 years.

These stations, they believe, have been seriously compromised by factors such as urbanisation, changes in land use and, in many cases, being moved from site to site.

Much, much more at the link. Just a global scam that is falling apart more every day. I wonder where Al Gore is hiding out.

Maybe in the same place as John McCain? He supported cap-and-trade for years.

Al Gore is still out there looking for ManBearPig.

Yep, and he was wrong too, although under his Cap & Trade Plan he put out during the campaign, it was to reduce carbon emissions 60%, while Barack's is 80%.

During the campaign most politicians fell for that global warming scam. Now the truth has come out and McCain has turned against Cap & Trade.

motoko9, you didn't comment on any of the links I posted today, anything interesting in them?

I've already said I was well aware of recent criticisms of global warming studies. I even said that science was supposed to work in this way - if a study doesn't hold up to rigorous peer review, then it should be questioned. None of these stories shows me that there's a global conspiracy among scientists - in fact, quite the contrary.

It is quite a bit more than "recent criticisms." It is falsified and faulty data by many scientists in many countries. So much so that India is pulling out of any so-called Climate Change Agreement and it is THEIR guy who is heading IPCC.

The evidence pretty much shows Global Warming is a lie. I realize it is being taught in schools and colleges all over this country and others. It is a shame that teachers and professors drank the kool-aid put out by these disreputable scientists.

IMO, it is a huge red flag when a group of scientists get together and squash any and all dissent and refuse to debate their theory.

Add to that, the fact that we, the peons of the world were just looked down on as ignorant fools for having the audacity to question the findings of these arrogant, disreputable scientists.

I guess we, the people, are getting the last laugh after all.

For the last time: Your links don't show that global warming (anthropogenic or otherwise; I thought your quibble was with the former, but I'm not sure anymore) is a "lie" or a "scam." For all your inflammatory rhetoric about liars, "disreputable" scientists, etc., there is no "smoking gun" that shows that it's all some kind of nefarious scheme.

And getting back to the OP that started all this, there is certainly nothing to convince me that climate change should not be studied. Even if it's inevitable, it seems to me that we would benefit in a number of ways from understanding how and why it occurs.

One good thing that may come out of all this media frenzy is that scientists may become more concerned with how to present their work in a way that is more accessible to the public. Unfortunately, there are a number of people who seem to have already made up their mind.

What do you call it when scientists falsify data? I call it disreputable.
Up until a few months ago the University of East Anglia Climatic Research Unit in Britain was regarded as the expert in climate research. Then we have the leaked emails and Al Gore and all the rest of these pseudo-scientists still assure us the data is sound, the earth is waming, blah blah blah.

But the house of cards is starting to fall.

Global Warming guru, Phil Jones, finally has to admit that the Earth was warmer in medieval times when there were FAR less people on this planet.
He also admits that for the past 15 years there has been no "statistically significant" warming. He said he "lost track" of many relevent papers because his office is so cluttered.

This is the man that the intelligentsia took his every word as gospel pertaining to Global Warming. I mean, give me a break.

This was good enough in the early years of the scam, but not any longer. John Christy, a professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama at Huntsville and once a ranking member of the United Nation's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, says the temperature records have been compromised and cannot be relied on. The findings of weather stations that collected temperature data were distorted by location. Several were located near air-conditioning units and on waste-treatment plants; one was next to a waste incinerator. Still another was built at Rome's international airport and catches the hot exhaust of taxiing jetliners.
When your proof for global warming consists of data obtained by weather stations built near airports catching hot exhaust of taxing jetliner, that is disreputable. This is not the only instance, there are dozens just like it. Those scientists ARE liars.

Na, the one's getting the last laugh are the corporations that make their money exploiting natural resources, polluting the environment and using their in-pocket politicians to block regulation. They can use the doubt created by this to cast doubt on every environmental issue that comes up for decades to come. But then of course, as long as it doesn't result in higher taxes, most people aren't going to care.

I think we should concentrate of making less pollution, hasn't this country cut its' emissions quite a bit?

But I don't believe this nation should have to throw billions of dollars a year into a slush fund of the United Nation's so the U.N. can disburse the billions to the corrupt leader's of third worold country's, minus the $$$$$ kicked back to the U.N. for being such a pal.

And all for a global warming that does not even exist.

I read about that Copenhagen climate conference. The third world country's pitched a fit when Hillary Clinton said there would be strings attached to that money. Oh boy, you should have heard them.

And the signs by the protestors "Rich Countries, give us your Climate Money" or some dang thing like that.

And our flipping taxes are high enough already.

There is no proof that it doesn't exist. But, I've not taken a stand on climate change for that very reason...I don't see sufficient proof either way. My point was that this is going to be a boon for corporations because they can, and will, use the "remember those global warming scientists...?" to cast doubt on anything environmental.

Taxes are going to get higher. It's unavoidable. It's been unavoidable for decades, but people kept putting it off for political points.

Thomas L. Friedman of the New York Times thinks the term "global weirding" would be more fitting:

Global Weirding Is Here
