Poor Rafiki.

A little history: She was a barn cat at the racetrack, I took her in and spayed her. Brought her to my place to recover. I have 3 cats. She's been in the bathroom. Lately I've left the bathroom door open (i.e. my cats can interact with her). There has been some hissing, but mostly just "staring."

Well, yesterday she was holding her left eye closed (right eye normal). No extra tearing or mucus, not rubbing it. If she heard a noise she'd open both eyes and look, but then go back to having it closed. Both pupils the same size. Figured I'd wait and see what she looked like tomorrow.

Today she's still holding the eye closed but now she's rubbing at it a little. I can open the eye and there is some conjunctivitis but no foreign body that I can see. She has an appointment with the vet tomorrow afternoon.

I'm hoping that she didn't get a claw in the eye from one of my cats.

Her appetite and desire for affection have been constant so far.

Poor Rafiki.

I'll keep you updated!

It could be an eyelash that's bugging her or a piece of dust or something like that in her eye, so it's a good thing that you're taking her to the vet. Be sure he does a stain test on it to check for any scratches.

Yay, it was no big deal! Of course, Rafiki was acting much more normal today, but we still went to the vet. No uptake of stain on the cornea anywhere, but there is a small cloudy spot on the center of the cornea. A mild rub or abrasion most likely. And tested her for FeLV/FIV today, negative. She also has a mild "cold."

Sent home with instructions for triple antibiotic hydrocortisone eye ointment and clavamox.

Oh, and she got treated for tapeworms too.

The cold could be causing the squinting, then. Glad it was nothing serious and she's already doing better. Watch the "cold" and make sure she doesn't get congested and slow down her eating or stop eating. I'm sure she'll make a speedy recovery under your care, though.
