Today the car that picked me up at work to bring me home was like a steam sauna!

My breathing is still quite bad from my being sick, and when I opened the car door I was blasted with a huge wave of hot air that made me feel like I was going to suffocate and sent me into a coughing spasm. It must have been over 90 degrees in there!

It's winter here, but it's pretty mild out; about -13 Celsius (8 or 9 degrees F) and no wind, so it feels milder than it really is.

The driver had on a parka, a wool scarf wrapped around his neck a couple of times and a touque! Here I am in his car for less than 30 seconds and I'm literally dripping sweat off my forehead; so hot that I almost felt compelled to strip off my clothes to get rid of that suffocating feeling, and here he is wearing a parka, touque and a wool scarf!!!

In between coughing, I commented on how hot it was. He didn't turn down the heat.

After a couple of minutes I got that "get out of the heat or throw up" feeling, so I asked him if he would please turn down the heat. He didn't say anything or do anything.

I tried to open my window a bit to let in some air. He had the control set to driver access only.

Finally I'm sure I yelled out louder than I meant to....

"If you don't turn down the heat or open a window I'm going to puke in your car!"

I've never seen anyone turn down the heater and open a window so fast!!

Now see I am personally ALWAYS cold.
I'm the one in the middle of the summer wearing a sweater because I'm chilly, so the car probably would have be GREAT for me.

That is the worst...even WORSE than that is when it's too hot PLUS too strong air freshener...
So sick!

^Even better, hot car, air freshener, and fart smell..

I'm going to guess that maybe the driver wasn't a native? Maybe they mistakenly transplanted from somewhere closer to the equator.

If I go between big temperature changes like that I'll start coughing, too. Everyone, even my asthmatic husband, make cracks about me having a hairball or something.

That sounds about right!

I forgot to mention that I don't know what kind of car it was, but when the car was moving the heat blew stronger and even hotter than when it was at a stand still.

I have pretty much a zero tolerance for extreme heat. I like temperatures in the low to mid 20's Celsius...that's in the low to mid 70's F. When it gets to the upper 70's or higher, I just find it intolerable. Not with my breathing, unless I'm sick, but from a comfort perspective. It might be different in a more arid climate, but in Winnipeg it's very humid especially in the summer. So when the temps are high, I feel hot and sweaty all of the time and it's not uncommon for me to have 4 or more cool showers a day when I'm at home on a hot day.

I'm exactly the same way! I can't stand the heat. Summer and heat and humidity are not my favorite things.

I laughed out loud at what you said to that guy!! You must have felt like a prisoner.....a very hot, nauseous prisoner. Reading it, I could almost feel how uncomfortable it was.

They have the heat so high in my apartment building, I turned it off about 20 years ago, and haven't had it on since!
And I'm perfectly fine with that. If I'm a little cold, I'll just put on a sweater or an extra blanket.

That sounds terrible, I rarely use any heat in my car and if I do it's only for a very short time. I get warm very quickly.

You sound just like me, I hate the summer with all that humidity and bugs flying around. I remember living in apartment buildings where I was suffocated with all that horrible heat, I sometimes had to keep a window open in the dead of winter because I was so hot. I'll take the Fall and Winter anytime altho I don't like the snow and ice.

Some people "run hot" compared to others. DH does - his average body temp is usually 99F. I'm the opposite at closer to 97F. Either one of us is too cold or the other is too warm. His parents have the same problem.
