That story broke my heart and brought me to tears. Every word is true tho, it's no wonder I like animals better than people.

Perfectly stated. I am going to pass this around. I have seven rescued foster cats in my home... two were stray, the rest - "surrendered." I have not had any luck placing them in new homes yet. Some of my family members had the nerve to suggest I "take them back" or "take them to the Humane Society."

I told them as long as I am in control and have ANY resources - these boys will NEVER see the inside of a shelter ever again. Do you have any clue what goes on in these places or what I have been working on especially in the last 8 months??? Duhh... The Michigan Humane Society in particular has a HIGHER euthanasia rate than the county facility they came from!!! They just have better PR. Duuhhhhhhhhh......

And when I read stuff like this - It just makes me want to hang on to them b/c I KNOW they are safe and well cared-for.

All too true. In the past twelve months co workers have tried to give me cats for the following reasons.

We're moving. I'll loan you a carrier.
The baby is starting to crawl. He will run from her.
She scratched my mother. Clip her nails.
I'm afraid the dogs will hurt them. Train your dogs.

All five cats were sent to the high kill shelter when I refused to take them. I'm not even a rescue, just someone who loves cats but has all I can care for properly already. At least two of those people got another cat within months.

People get "tired" of pet ownership. That's the bottom line. Well... you can't get tired of being a parent or working a job, can you and just say.. I am not going to earn money or care for my kids anymore... But people don't see it that way. At least people like this.

A friend of mine wanted me to take her 13 year old indoor-outdoor cat b/c it was getting cold out and they had gotten a Lab and the Lab has no manners and won't leave the cat or her food alone. B/C of the unmannered dog the CAT got put OUTSIDE. They did put up a shelter for her. BUT.... She didn't want the cat to "winter" outside at her age. Ok...Uhhh..... why did you get the dog? Her son wanted it. Uh, why doesn't the boy who is 16 walk the dog and take it to obedience training? uhhh...... uhhhhh.....I told her I do not have room and it is not safe to have the cat be outside where I live. I said don't take it to the Humane Society. At her age she will be put down and other rescues won't take her b/c her age makes her practically unadoptable AND They are stuffed to the rafters with ADOPTABLE cats/kittens. So at least she listened to the advice I gave her and put the cat in her college-age daughter's room for the winter. And the kitty is still with her family. And goes out when the weather permits and stays in a warm, dry home when it is not. Geez- they owe her THAT much!

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I just posted the link to this on my Facebook and emailed it to anyone I could that loves animals. I really hate people sometimes. I have literally a negative income every month but I will beg borrow and plead to make sure my babies have what they need! I really hope that anyone that reads this on my page passes it on and realizes that when you dump an animal it doesnt always find some happy go lucky home to live out the rest of its life! Freakin JERKS!
