Seriously. I could cry. And I might.

We were hit with the blizzard Friday night into Saturday. When I got up with the baby to feed her at 5 something Saturday morning our power was on so I thought we were good to go. I got back in bed around 6:30. When DH got up at 8:30 the power was off and it was coming down still. We have well water, so no power meant no water too. It didn't stop snowing till around 6 that night. By that time it was below 60 in the house. We had the baby bundled up and kept changing to warmer things for ourselves too.

During the day I'd been calm about it all; but as the sun set and the temperature inside dropped I did start getting anxious. And then my mother called to tell me one of my pastors and his wife were out near our house and coming to get us to bring us to her house! DH and I packed ourselves, the baby and both cats up. We had to walk to the street to get in the SUV but before I knew it we were at my Mother's house.

That itself was crazy. My parent's had 4 of 5 of their kids back in the house. Plus one son-in-law, a friend of my step-sister's who got stuck there the night before, 2 grand-kids, a grand dog (so 2 dogs), 2 grand-cats (so 5 cats all together), and a grand-rat. It was noisy and chaotic and I think my parent's were in Heaven! LOL!

The next morning most of the crew were able to leave. Our power came back on (so our water too!) so we were able to go home last night as well.

But now we are forecast for another 10-18" with worse blowing conditions than we had this weekend!! What gives!?!?!?! So it's pretty much decided that at least the baby and I will be going back to my mother's before it gets bad out. I haven't talked to DH about what he wants to do. He can rough it here; he has PLENTY of camping equipment. But I'd like to take the cats again. I am NOT going to try to drive the baby and myself there. I shovel like a true northerner, but I do not drive like one! We moved here before I was of driving age. DH is working now and most likely will be working tomorrow as well; and typically works late. So I don't know when I'll get up there. I have a feeling DH would rather stay here and keep an eye on things. We lost 2 trees on Saturday and a few other branches.
I'm so ready for spring. I need to get packing again. Shouldn't have bothered to unpack.

I hope it doesn't get too bad there hun. Stay safe!

I hate winter myself and live for the summers... I swear I pretty much hibernate.

You certainly have had more than your share. I live 30 miles north of Buffalo, NY so I know about snow. (roof raking is the worst).

Stay safe in this next go round!

Typical Upper midwest weather. But for people who aren't use to this it can be tough.
Tomorrow we are forecast 7-10" but with winds gusting 35-30mph. I always carry supplies in my truck. Like boots, a blanket or two, extra mittens/hat. Granola bars and a couple of scrapers for the windows.

Make sure you fill some containers with water in case power goes out again. We have a well also but we have a wood stove so one room can stay warm.
If your power does go out and temps drop remember to open the cupboard doors under your sinks esp of any are on exterior walls to help the pipes from freezing.

I'm originally from Utica. They get their fair share of lake effect snow there. I've lived here for 15 years; but in my mind when you say anything under 18" it sounds like nothing to me; but reality down here is that it's a lot and they don't handle it well. I've seen lots of bob cats out doing plowing. And now living in the country, I've seen plenty of tractors out doing it too.

This is EXTREMELY unusual for us. In the past 15 years we've had several really bad storms, but not this many of them!!

We are getting some of that snow but after remembering the ice storm we had last year it doesn't seem that bad.

Spring weather can't some soon enough.

I am so sorry for everyone who is having such bad weather!! Here in Atlanta, it is supposed to snow again on Friday. It has been very cold today and the forecast doesn't look too pretty for this week. Seriously, bad weather has a really bad affect on my mood
All I want to do is sleep, hybernate or something. I don't know how some of you who live in the north deal with it. Maybe it's just me...but I am finding it hard to be productive when the weather is yucky..

I think if I had no where to go and the power would stay on I wouldn't mind it so much. It's having to worry about the baby and leave my home that's got me so bothered.

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
MoochNNoodles- I know what you mean about the driving thing. Im HORRIBLE in the snow..I wont drive unless its absolutely nessecary and I will not drive without BF in the car with me because he knows everything to do in the snow driving wise. I know tomorrow we will have to go out and shovel his gram out of her house (we do it every snow storm) and will will go up to his dads to plow his business out!

Im in Central Pa (Susquehanna River Valley) and they are calling right now for it to snow into tomorrow instead of tapering off tonight. Personally I dont mind it I wanted a big blizzard and then the snow to stop. But Im not looking forward to breaking out the shovel and cleaning paths out to the garage and a path for Franklin to go potty. I just like looking at the snow not being out in it..Haha!!!

Everyone be careful in the snow and stay put unless you have to go out!!!

I am so ready for this snow to be over as well. We got about 30 inches over the weekend. As of right now, and it is snowing the dickens right here, we have 9 more on top of that. We get these storms every 7-10 years so I have been through this before but still....... And to top it off I caught a really nasty cold so I am sick as a dog. I am most worried about the old trees in my nieghborhood and the electricity going out. We had tree guys shoring up our trees last year but still lots of heavy snow on them. I do have some pretty incredible pictures of my area.

It was pretty good out yesterday and Metro was running the above ground trains so I was able to go to work and get enough work to take home so I won't have to use a week of annual leave. So I am pretty lucky, alot of people in this area it is a pretty heavy economic blow. So I have to count my blessings.

You guys have really been hit hard this winter. I hope it doesn't take too long to dig out after this bout.

The storm is headed for me, too. I've heard predictions ranging from 6 inches to 15.

I hope everything gets right again for you! Stay safe.

We're also getting up to ANOTHER 22" (on top of the blizzard from last Saturday). It's been snowing since 7 PM last night (Tuesday night). We must have about another foot on top of the other snow from the weekend, and it's showing no signs of abating any time soon...they actually closed work LAST night, well before the snow started, for TODAY--in all of the years I've worked there, I don't remember them ever doing that--they rarely even close when the weather is terrible on the actual day.

Dh's place also closed; never known them to do that in the 6 years her's worked there.

We decided to clean out the attic today! We've been up there since 9:30 AM. and are taking a break.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I remember when the electricity went out in the house for a week two winters ago. Thankfully we're kind of nutty, so we had a propane room heater handy (we were able to keep the bedroom warm), we had - so much water it's crazy - probably enough for a month without the pump... the initial puzzle was how to keep the fish warm. We figured out we could heat a gallon of water on the camp stove and add it to the fish tank (after removing water) - doing this several times a day we were able to keep them alive.

Yup - especially with a well, no electricity is a PIA.

I'm glad your mom is nearby.

We're gonna have fun digging out tomorrow.

Stay safe!

Not much, but enough! I'm just glad the last storm wasn't cold enough here to snow; it would have been a massive storm! Which is, of course, the storm they're getting up north right now.

Our forecast is for snow before noon tomorrow, which is when I should be getting home from Houston (I'm about to leave right now). Then more tomorrow night when I have to go to Houston again.

Not a lot of snow, probably less than 2 inches. But that's plenty, around here.
