Hi fellow feline lovers! I have 6 fur babies (one new feral still in hiding) so there is always something fun going on in here. Well they loove toys! Give them a noisey plastic bag or a box smalle than they are and wala! You got 2 of the best, most enjoyable and FREE toys for all the kitties!
Well yesterday we were in the Dollar General and hubby bought a package of multi colored pipe cleaners. So there are several flying around in here. The favorite one is the all black that he tristed and made look like a spider. Well he made all kinds of stuff and all the kitties love them all!
PS: have you ever seen a huge cat work so hard on getting into this little tiny box 1/2 their size? Mine love doing it!

Most of us have witnessed the phenomenon of "the smaller the box, the bigger the cat trying to squeeze into it".

Love the pics! A friend of mine who works with the TNR program I'm involved with actually makes cat toys with pipe cleaners. Cheap and easy!

A couple of you are too new to have seen the warning on here before, but there was a member who was given some pipe cleaner toys at a cat show. I can't remember if she got to her cat before it attempted to swallow the little piece the broke off or saw it and promptly took it away before the cat noticed. IMO wire is not safe for kitties to play with, neither are plastic bags since many cats will chew on them.

Instead look into sewing your own toys, offer wadded up balls of paper, paper sacks, toss an old newspaper down on the floor for them to play on/in, empty toilet paper rolls, and other odd things around the house that cannot potentially harm your cat.

For new users, look up "fleece ball" for instructions on how to make safe toy balls that only cost whatever little amount you spend on the fleece remnant costs (anywhere from .60 to $2 at walmart).

I was about to add the same warning, pipe cleaners, or anything with wire, is not safe for cats.

In addition, paper bags are safer than plastic bags, and be sure to always cut the handles on any bags used as cat toys.

^And it's too bad, the really really fluffy pipe cleaners would probably be a lot of fun if it weren't for their danger. Probably the best alternative to that is maybe a long pile faux fur toy with cardboard sewn into it to stiffen into shapes, or over stuffing. That gives me some ideas.
Though faux furs are synthetic materials, and bits of those can be ingested - using real fur (rabbit) would probably bother some people.

Riot loves real fur. Her favorite toy for fetch is a lucky rabbits foot I got when I was little, and she loves curling up in our box of fur coats that we've collected to make pillows out of. She also loves attacking the taxedermied bobcat haha!!!
