I am pretty much a homebody. But when I need to get away, I like the library or craft shops. There are two in Medina, NY. Its a small Erie Canal town, kind of like Mayberry! They are full of primative accessories and supplies. One even has a cat that lays on the cutting board table. Its a nice country drive out there, so it is very relaxing.

But the best place is home. I've got the creek and the gully and the woods beyond. There is no place like it.

Well I've had the week of hell and I just immerse myself in my cats or send really long emails to my internet friends. I don't like leaving the house when I feel down

Mine would be shopping, too and being with my babies. It use to be going to the beach or to the mountains. And I would do it at the drop of a hat.

Central Park. Or Riverside/Hudson River Park.

They've turned most of the land along the Hudson River in Manhattan into lovely little parks below and above Riverside Park. I either take my bike and a book, or walk. Even in NYC, they've made places to get away...it's wonderful.

Central Park, actually, is my favorite place in the city. They have a place called The Shakespeare Garden, which is planted with all the plants and flowers mentioned in Shakespeare's plays. There are benches, and signs asking people to maintain the quiet spirit of the place. It's lovely.

Wen I am down, I curl up in bed with Bella and a good book or movie. I wish we had beaches in downtown Indy.

We have a charity bookstore nearby that you can get most books for $1.99.....I usually spend about 15 bucks and come away with a whole bunch of books.
Roaming around looking for great finds is such a mental escape for me! I love libraries for that reason also.

or I zone out watching british comedies that I own on dvd. It soothes me.

I also love to escape with books!

If I want to get out of the house though, Dana and I usually go for a drive somewhere, to a neighbouring city, maybe do some shopping and site seeing.

I escape into World of Warcraft.
Getting frustrated by a video game can completely engulf my mind for a few hours.
Yeah, I'm a homebody too

If I'm feeling down, I tend to be a hermit. I don't want to go anywhere, and I prefer relatively mindless activity, preferably including a cat and Max Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor. By the time that has repeated a few times, I can usually acknowledge that the world is not about to end.

For a longer "getaway", there is no place like Long Beach (BC) and environs for three or four days. That's my "Thin Place".

I just stay at home since it's only me and Autumn here and I put my nose into a good book. I forget my problems for awhile by reading about other people's problems. Reading calms me even more than watching a movie.

When I get upset and need to get away from everything I either go to a store like Target or Walmart and wander around aimlessly...or I play mindless computer games and listen to my music on iTunes. Music usually is very good at calming me down and helping me forget my problems.

Weather permitting, my favorite place to hide from the rest of the world is the cemetery across the street. It was founded in the 1840s and is set on a bluff high over the Mississippi River. It's probably my favorite locale in the entire city.
If it's too nasty outside for a walk, I might head to the Salvation Army's thrift store to see if I can find any bargains.
