Well, hell has officially frozen over!!!! The New Orleans Saints have won Superbowl XLIV. The party has officially started, not only in New Orleans, but in the whole state. The party unofficially started when the Saints won over the Vikings for the superbowl spot! The excitement has only been building over these past 2 weeks. There has been an unbelievable excitement in the air over the past 2 weeks. Churches have cancelled Sunday evening masses/services, businesses have closed tonight, schools have canceled classes (in New Orleans) for tomorrow......there has been talk about how much absenteeism / tardiness there will be on Monday based on how much there was after the game against the Vikings two weeks ago. Wow! This is fantastic! I am sooo happy for the team and their fans.
I am actually hearing fireworks outside right now!!!

GEAUX SAINTS!!!

WE BELIEVE!!!

WHO DAT!!!!!!!!

Going into this game I was just hoping that the Saints wouldn't get beaten too badly.

Way to go Saints!!!

Although, can someone please explain the missing school on Monday thing? I don't get it ...

I mentioned to somebody that "if" they did lose, I hoped that it wouldn't be a landslide victory by the Colts.....you know, that it was at least close scoring.

Well, the school closings that I've heard mentioned on the radio were pretty much schools in New Orleans. I saw on your profile that you are originally from Ohio....that might explain why you don't understand.
It doesn't take much for people in Louisiana to throw a party. But the Saints winning the Superbowl?!!! That is super huge! People will party into the wee hours.....heck, make that the upcoming weeks. There are lots of families who traveled to Miami, whether or not they were able to get tickets....most won't be back in time to get their kids to school. The whole city will be in party mode....it is really hard to explain to someone who is not from this area. School officials know there will be alot of students out, so they just figured they would cancel classes. That's the only way I can explain it.

I heard on talk radio that based on the absenteeism and tardiness that happened after they won their superbowl spot, it would be there if they won the superbowl. They said if the Saints lost the game, there would be about 5 - 8% more than after that game....and if they won, 10% more. I was in Inventor 3D training this past Thursday & Friday. The man doing the training was heading out to New Orleans for the game and said they would be closed on Monday.

By they way, I'm in the New Iberia/Lafayette area!

I didn't understand the whole missing school either thing. When I got that call that the kids would be out of school....I was like , What? But I got the call last week before they even won. I guess it's because the Super Bowl was in Miami and they knew that the kids that attended the game wouldn't be back in time for the start of the school day on Monday?

I wasn't really rooting for either team but I felt like the Saints wanted it more so I'm happy with the result

Not that this will explain the "school" thing, but it will explain the excitement.... This was a letter written "to Miami" by Mark Lorando, the Features editor for The Times-Picayune. It was his letter to Miami explaining what they needed to do to prepare for the Who Dat Nation about to invade Miami. It's a bit long, but a fun read....especially if you are from Louisiana.

I will say they have no idea what the "open container law" is here. You can get Daiquiri's through the drive-thru!
They get around the law by serving the straw seperate..at least that's what I read somewhere.

We aren't from here originally and I about fell over when we passed by the drive-thru daiquiri place.

I was hoping the saints would win, but I didn't really think they would.
I really like Drew Brees though, and am happy for the whole team and all of New Orleans! Next year though, watch out...the COWBOYS gonna take it!

I can't be a sore loser. Congratulations Saints!!! In Indianapolis there was talk about starting school two hours later if the Colts won. The reason was because last time Colts won the Superbowl all the bus drivers called in or were late for their routes the following day.

Congrats Saints fans!

I have to admit. I was heartbroken two weeks ago, being a die-hard Vikings fan, but the Saints played a really good game. That off-side kick to start the 2nd half was a huge thing. The momentum definitely swung the Saints' way after that.

A really good game.

I loved the halftime show, being a big fan of The Who. Notice, the game was on CBS, and they included all the songs that are used for all of the "CSI" shows.......also on CBS.
