so after much looking and lots of debating I bought the Natural Balance Ultra premium food...mainly because it's all life stages and it's corn free. To refresh I have two cats that insist on eating each other's food. I have them on Authority Brand and one is eating kitten and the other adult. It concerned me that they were eating each other's food despite my efforts to feed them separately.

Well neither of them seem to like the NB dry food at all. They ate the wet fine, but they both like any wet food it doesn't matter. I have been putting a little less than the normal amount of Authority food I give them and making up the difference with the NB food, but they seem to be eating around the NB food. When I put it in their bowls they turn up their noses until they get hungry enough and then eat around the new stuff.

I paid $15.99 for 6 pound bag and got three cans of wet food free. That's a doable price for me, but I can't go too much above that.

Should I look for another all life stages or get a sensitive stomach one? Whisper vomited twice in the last month and someone mentioned that Siamese mixes can have a sensitive stomachs. It just doesn't seem like there are a lot of options when it comes to all life stages.

Would it hurt to feed Kiki a kitten food or Whisper an adult food? Kiki is 13 months old and Whisper is 3 months old.

look at the % of protein and fat on the NB ... I am thinking MOST premiums saying adult are close ...

IF you want IMHO .. feed them BOTH kitten food

What stores do you have easy access...lol.. I likely should re read the thread but I am lazy

The Avoderm has whole ground corn in it. That isn't a bad thing? I guess I'm a little confused b/c we have a Great Dane and corn is not so great for them.

Is there a post somewhere that will tell me what ingredients are good and which aren't so good?

My guys didn't like NB that much.. they won't eat the wet food and they love wet food. My vet didn't want me fiving Archie duck and that much green pea (NB's LID food).

I am sure you can take the bag back to wherever you got it... hopefully you have the receipt.

I am not the expert here, but I would want the kitten to have as much nutrient dense food as he can get given his age.

Keep in mind, too, that once he reaches 1 year... you can put them both back on Authority Indoor Adult if you wanted to. This is just such an important formative time for him that his nutritional needs would come first, I would think. So the uptick in cost is temporary.

What about -
Organix, Halo or Solid Gold Katz n Flocken? They are all "all life stages" and available at Petco, in addition to the Avoderm at both PS and PC.

Maybe sharky can chime in on these?

I would be so nice if the ingredients were in plain language. Half the stuff at the bottom of the list I have no idea what it is. Argg... (on any food)

MUCH of the long stuff at the end is the nutrient add ons...

Grd corn is not great in digestability but in some cats it helps prevent vomitting and others it causes it ... go figure

Organix IMHO is junk for the price ... I prefer corn and rice to soy and peas... Please note if they have removed the soy...It seems as thou they did ditch the soy.. but it says cat and kitten yet the AFFCO seal is not for that

ORGANIX Feline Adult and Kitten Formula provides a quality, nutritionally balanced food for the maintenance of adult cats.
AAFCO Statement: 100% Complete and Balanced ORGANIXÂ[emoji]174[/emoji] Feline Formula is formulated to meet the nutritional levels established by the AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) Cat Food Nutrient Profiles for adult maintenance.

Solid gold is fine but VERY grainy.. ie if memory serves three meats( one of which is a unspecified fish and one is lamb) and six grains and three grain likes...

Halo is mostly grain and veggie

Corn is a HIGH allergen to dogs ... Cats are not allergic to it NEARLY as much..

example I used to keep tally of allergys from vet tests... accuracy could be ?ed

dogs
Corn was the number 1 allergen

Nearly every dog with a food allergen was allergic to corn

cats
122 different tests on that many cats ...

5 were allergic to corn

Castor and Pollux Organix ingredients:

Organic Chicken, Chicken Meal, Organic Peas, Organic Brown Rice, Organic Barley, Potato Protein, Organic Chicken Fat Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols (a natural source of Vitamin E), Salmon Meal, Organic Flaxseed, Natural Chicken Flavor, Dried Egg Product

Then the list continues with minerals, vitamins, etc.

Well - I feel for marinewife... you want to do right by your fur babies. Like I said... maybe bump up the cost til the littlest one is done with his growth curve and then scale back to a less expensive food they can both have.

Any other suggestions I might have takes the price or the accessibility out of your league, MW.

Blue Buff - Wilderness, Taste of the Wild, Evo...... Wellness though that is not all life stages...

I can't find an AAFCO statement for the Avoderm Kitten and adult cat food that they sell at Petco. Petsmart doesn't have this one, at least not online.

But here are the first few ingredients:

Chicken Meal, Ground Yellow Corn, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Whole Wheat, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid), Herring Meal
Crude Protein (min) 32.00%, Crude Fat (min) 20.00%

The adult formula is the same and is for maintenance.

The kitten formula is:
Chicken Meal, Ground Whole Corn, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Ascorbic Acid), Herring Meal, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Whole Brown Rice, Ground Whole Wheat,

Crude Protein (min) 36.00%
Crude Fat (min) 22.00%

This one states it is for growth.

Which is better?

What about By Nature?

Chicken Meal, Ground Barley, Chicken Fat (Stabilized with Mixed Tocopherols), Chicken, Chicken Livers, Ground Brown Rice, Flaxseed Meal, Ground Oats, Fish Meal, Tomato Pomace, Natural Flavors

Crude Protein (minimum) 33%Crude Fat (minimum) 18%

It has the statement that it is formulated for all life stages.

Thanks for all your help.

There is a feed store that carries Taste of the Wild, but it's over an hour away. Is there anywhere online to buy it that doesn't cost an arm and leg for shipping?

PS and PC don't sell Taste. I get it at a more specialty store around here... actually at a discount pet place. .. dumpy.. obviously they don't spend money on decor LOL... but I spend $7.99 for a 5 lb bag and 18 or 19 for the 15 lb bag and THAT my friends is a deal!

If you spent 16 for 6 lbs For the NB Ultra (and they wouldln't eat it )and Wilderness is 18 or 19 for 6 lbs ( based on the online info)... would it be worth another 3 bucks for a bag to get the Wilderness? Just asking.....

ETA: If I could afford it, I would feed EVO or Orijen, but I have seven foster cats and I am on my own to feed them... and I need grain free b/c one boy has GI issues.

I knew the big guys dont have taste ... wow you do get a deal... Taste here is a bargin at 22-25$ for the 15 lb and 10 ish for the 5 lb

IMHO they should eat a bit less of wilderness as it is higher in protein and fat( now do not ask about my house
) ...

Nb is roughly 2.66 a lb

Online wilderness is 3 to 3.50 a lb... unsure about in store but I have noted Major price difference s
