Good morning CatLovers.

Todays question has to do with superstitions. Do you have any you believe? Is there anything superstitious that you do? (ex. throwing salt over your shoulder, or other superstitions) Will you walk under a ladder?

I don't have any real superstitions but sometimes I do say things just for fun like don't count your chips at the casino until you're done or you'll lose them

Good morning Chris,..
nice question of today!...
I never thought about it!...

let see...

My Country is full of this, every region has their own and particulary way to see the stuff, it depends too by the folclore, but certainly some are very similar....make a list it would be really long...

When I was kid, MOM use to asign the home task by age,...usually get the "sweept" of all home...
meanwhile my other bros clean the bathroom or go for the grocery shop....

The fact is the superstition here was if you "Sweept your foot during the task you never get married"...
....when I was kid always afraid of this....
.....I don´t know why but was funnie this when I grew up!...

That's funny! I like that one, I would never have gotten married for sure, I am a clumsy sweeper, but... I do the job well!!

The one that gets me the most, and I just don't understand...

Not to pick up a penny on tails, it's bad luck.

I've always had great luck, but I've always feared pennies tails up

I also don't cross my fingers, somewhere I got this idea it was bad luck...

13 is a GOOD luck # (my mom was born on the 13th)
Black cats have nothing to do with bad luck (Shadey isn't completely black she's got a white patch on her chest, and one on her tummy, sooooo cute)

The penny one is the only one I actively think about though. I won't even touch one. Heads up... np

Be Safe.

I'm not superstitious at all. The only ones I really pay attention to are the ones that are grounded in common sense, such as not walking under a ladder.

Not really supersititious here, although I won't walk under a ladder.... guess that's more of a safety thing.

However, I do follow one thing that my grandmother had done for years. On New Year's Eve, my grandmother would place an old purse outside on her front porch. The purse contained a $1.00 bill. The first thing she did after midnight was to go outside and bring that purse back in the house; that way, her very first task of the New Year was to bring money in her home and that was supposed to mean that she would never have any financial problems throughout the year. I do that now, too.

Black cats do not bring bad luck for us. Our Hydrox, the Old Coot, was pure black, although he developed white hairs along his neck as he got older. He was 20 years old when we had to euthanize him for breast cancer. And he was my little boy. Black kitty with golden eyes. Beautiful boy.

Yeah, I knock on wood, I throw spilled salt over my left shoulder, and probably one or two others that don't come to mind at the moment -- probably because I actually don't take them that seriously. I wouldn't really call myself superstitious.

I'm not superstitious, but I do like the song
. "If a black cat crosses your path, you will have bad luck". Yeah right. If that were true, I'm pretty sure most of us on this site would be in for a hellish life
. But I did find a cute little site about cat superstitions.

I'm not superstitious in the least, but Gary is, and I respect it, so I "knock wood" all the time. That's really the main one... He isn't superstitious about black cats though.

I have the weirdest superstition in the world. Every time I try to watch any of the Godfather movies, something goes seriously wrong. DH bought me the complete DVD set one year for Christmas. When I watched the first one, an ice storm hit the city, knocked out power for 5 days, and it took us over a year to clean up the tree damage it left. When I watched the second one, a tornado hit our house, which took about 6 months to clean up on that one. When I watched the third one, a major storm hit and I'm attributing the fact that since it was the lamest of the movies, it caused the least damage.

So a few years later I decided to break the jinx by watching all three back to back. Within a week I developed an infection in my thumb. Two surgeries later, the thumb is still not entirely normal.

I love those movies, but I'm afraid to watch them.

I try to be superstitious, but my football team loses every time I wear my "lucky" boxers! So apparently I need some new undies or a better football team.!

I'm not superstitious at all but all of my family is superstitious.
My mom always knocks on wood, they spit on little children to protect them from curses, wear amulets and bracelents and put garlic in their pockets...Well, I did all that too when I was little.
Oh, and there is some kind of secret chant that certain women that are chosen by my grandmother are supposed to do to remove a curse...
I don't know details cuz I don't pay attention...

When I hope something comes true I usually 'knock on wood'. I'm not to crazy about Friday the 13th and am extremely careful on that day.

I thought long and hard about it, but haven't come up with any. I am a big believer in following your heart, that is probably somewhat of a superstition, I am big into "feeling" things, going with your gut I guess that could be called.
