Hi, I'm sorry if I am boring you with my illness
I am an avid cat lover and will be posting some new pics of my fur babies soon but I feel as though I have made some good online buddies here. I don't know if you read my other thread but I have a goiter on my right side of my neck and my left side is swelling up, I am awaiting my thyroid results which I will get tomorrow and then am awaiting an ultrasound scan appointment for the goiter. I have been suffering really bad with aches and pains-mostly back and neck, nausea and lack of energy these past few days. I also have an ear infection. I have only asked as I am really worried and my gp hasn't told me wheteher these kind of symptoms are normal, has anyone else been through this and can put my mind at rest please. I apologise again as I understand this is a kitty forum but I just need a bit of reassurance, thanyou.xx

I got my thyroid blood results today and all is normal?? My doctor has referred me to the hospital and they will be phoning me on monday with an appointment. I am so scared, I have joined a thyroid disease help forum so hopefully i will stop bugging you lot
My doctor said he didn't think that it was cancer but I still am so scared with all my symptoms. Thankyou all on here for being so kind to me. xx

Good news, Ruthy B - although I understand how frustrating it can be to have "normal" results and still know there's something wrong. My results were always normal - in spite of a goiter the size of a lemon. I had to have it and my entire thyroid removed because it was pressing on my vocal cords.

I've been on Synthroid for almost 20 years now and am fine. My son had thyroid cancer and had his thyroid removed as well. Thyroid cancer does not seem to spread the way other cancers do.

hey hon,YES I know all about them!! I have a mulitnodular goiter.
One side of my Thyroid is 5cm,and the other is 4cm.The cut off for normal is 4cm.
My Thyroid is full of MANY nodules. The biggest is 1.1cm.I have already had a Thyroid Biopsy.NOT fun at all!! I've had an ultrasound, which iswhat showed how many and how big the nodules were.
I am on 88mg of Synthroid(it's the generic of it).I've been on Synthroid for about 2 years now.My levels need to be checked every 6 weeks.I've already had to have it highered.
Feel free to PM me!!
I'm getting ready to have the biopsy AGAIN in 3 to 3 1/2 weeks.

I have a goiter too, with a nodule. I get a biopsy every couple of years, and even though my blood work is "normal" my doc has me on armor thyroid (when I can get it) 45 mg. It has made a huge difference in my life, the medicine I mean, unfortunately, the medicine goes on "back order" frequently and I may run out before it is available again.

I can't take synthroid, I tried. My body just cannot handle artificial hormones. I couldn't take the synthetic estrogen either.

Pm me... Mom had to be on armor also but I found a different one that worked

Blood work and thyroid IMHO are a joke ... it is very inaccurate ...

My goiter is salt related

I agree, there are other options out there beyond Synthroid. I'm on Armour, and I'm doing great on it! And there are other brands that are natural dessicated hormone.

I do have pain on my left side.
When I swallow pork chops, steak, it feels as if it gets stuck in my throat too.
If someone touchs the left side--the side with the big nodule, it causes me pain, and alot of discomfort.
I would say if you have pain, you NEED to call your Dr.

Oh yeah I have rung my doctor but he is not interested, I have found alot of information out on the forum that I have joined and discovered that my doc is measuring my thyroid function in the old way and that my functions are high but he will no accept this and still says my bloods are normal. I am glad that he has referred me to hospital as they may help me more. My doctors are useless, I know I need treatment but he WILL not listen to me. I have printed some info off and I am taking it to him on monday. Thanks for your advice, its bad when you have to tel your doctor how to traet you. x

Ruth is there any way you can just go to another doctor for a second opinion? Or does your current doctor have to refer you?

My friend has given me the number of her doctors, so I may ring them in the morning and also the ENT department at the hospital are ringing me tomorrow with an appointment. I KNOW I havea thyroid disease, the symptoms are awful, dizziness, I don't feel like I'm in my body half the time, its awful and even more so as no-one is listening to me. I just want to go to bed all the time but I also want to get on with things but I can't. The doctors are really rubbish over here. All I want is some help. x
