I need to create a photo of a person who doesn't exist. I figure the way I'll do it is by taking photos from the 'net and combining little bits and pieces here and there from them to come up with somebody non-existent. I need to make it look real. I'm creating a fictional character for a facebook profile.

Don't get the wrong idea though, it's not for a prank or anything sinister. It's related to this thread:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=211417

The character I'm trying to create is a tough guy, yet at the same time is polished and professional, and witty. I know it's going to be difficult to try to portray some of these qualities in a photo, but I'm going to try.

Think Bruce Campbell's character in the show "Burn Notice" or Mark Harmon's character in "NCIS".

So, if you could kindly provide me with links to various photos of people you think fit this description, I would be much obliged. The reason I'm asking you all to help rather than just me search the 'net is that I think everybody's expectations for how this character should look will differ slightly, and I'm interested in both the commonalities and the differences amongst links/photos posted.

Thanks.

This is interesting, how are you going to come up with the final look, are you going to use some kind of software to combine characteristics from different pictures? I love the idea, it seems kind of artsy and cool...

My idea of tough guy, witty, and polished is of course Gerard Butler...

That's the plan. A while back I worked as a web and graphic designer, so I have some nice software laying around. I might be able to do it in GIMP alone, but we'll see. I won't lie, this is going to be a challenge for me to combine elements and maintain realism. I'm going to start reading tutorials online to see if there are any tricks available for this type of task that I'm not aware of. I did something similar in 2001 as part of a class I was taking called "Art in an age of digital culture." I tried searching the net for the image, but I can't find it. It used to be permanently hosted by the school (I think accidentally), because it was up for years after I took that class.

As for the photo you posted, that's exactly why I made this thread. I would never have picked him on my own. I think everybody's expectation of what the character I've described would look like is going to be quite different, and that's perfect. Thanks for contributing.

CoolCat - that's actually who came to mind initially. Not the actor, although he is very talented, but the character of House. After that, I was thinking Matt Damon as the character Jason Bourne.

ETA: Another one who came to mind was Mark Wahlberg in his role as Bob Lee Swagger.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Well, your description fits Gary perfectly!

You can use the "props" in the photo - glasses/sunglasses - the pens that are in the pocket or a headset can portray the professional part... Wrong angle here, but this is interesting - the camo coat could denote the tough guy, but the rest is all professional:

...or tough guy sunglasses:

...holding a bottle of expensive champagne can communicate polished... the baseball cap, a sense of humor?
(This was us going to a biz meeting on an oil tanker):

Plot twist. I've been writing the backstory for this person so that things make sense in his facebook profile and he really comes to life and seems like a real person. I've decided for various reasons that he was born in a small fishing town in southwest Ireland on the Dingle Peninsula. I don't want to give away what town exactly just yet, but I did a lot of research before settling on it. He moved to the U.S. at a very young age.

So the guy has irish heritage and is about 28 years old. So, maybe some photos of irish guys in the mid to late twenties, or early to mid thirties (or at least look that way) who look to you to be tough, professional'ish, polished, and maybe even witty. We're extrapolating a lot from looks here obviously.

Thanks so far.

Colin Farrell or Sean Patrick Flannery (Boondocks Saints)? They are about the right age and nationality, besides being total eye candy.
